Senior Software Engineer

About The Role
Join SOPHiA GENETICS as a Senior Software Engineer, where you will design, develop, and optimize software solutions that integrate seamlessly with the SOPHiA DDM platform. Your expertise will ensure scalability, efficiency, and performance while contributing to technical initiatives and meeting both business and technical requirements. You will work with cutting-edge AI tools and software engineering best practices, and have a solid understanding of microservices architecture, monitoring and observability tools, and experience in genomics.
- Design, develop, and continuously improve robust services that are scalable and efficient while fitting into overall system architecture.
- Implement new features and enhancements across SOPHiA DDM core components, public API as well as middleware layer to enable setup of new integrations with external hospital systems.
- Optimize deployment workflows, automate pipelines, and enhance infrastructure management for efficient and reliable application deployment.
- Power user of latest AI tools and agent orchestration in all stages of software life cycle
- Solid understanding and extensive working experience with microservices architecture
- Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools such as Grafana and Loki
- Knowledge of HL7 and FHIR standards for healthcare data exchange is a strong plus
- Experience in genomics is beneficial
- Experience with scalable architecture, particularly in cloud environments and containerized infrastructure
- Experience in optimization of system performance, manage resources effectively, and improve execution time – esp. when dealing with large data volumes
- React.js experience for front end development is a strong plus
- Proficiency with databases like MySQL, MariaDB, and DuckDB, including design and query optimization
- Solid proficiency in Java for backend services
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in a comparable role, holding a bachelor’s or master’s degree (or higher)
- Familiarity with Linux environments and GitLab for version control and CI/CD pipelines
- Solid experience with public APIs including API definition and change management
- Experience with Micronaut for developing microservices and backend solutions is a strong plus
- Knowledge of Kafka is a plus
