JOB SUMMARY
The Marketing Specialist is responsible for executing marketing strategies that enhance awareness, affinity, trust, and loyalty among prospective and current students, families, alumni, donors, community partners, university employees and other stakeholders who are important to the university’s success.
This position works with the Senior Manager of Brand and Marketing and others across the university to identify, develop, produce, manage and track creative assets that express Hamline’s brand identity, cultivate brand loyalty, drive student enrollment, and support advancement initiatives. The Marketing Specialist will research and write marketing copy and assist with research, planning, logistics, analytics, and reporting to support brand and marketing initiatives.
This role also assists the Senior Manager of Brand and Marketing with workflow, project management, and administrative operations for the Marketing and Communications department.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Brand and Strategic Priorities Marketing Strategy and Execution
- Assist the Senior Manager of Brand and Marketing with the development and execution of strategic, integrated marketing campaigns that support brand awareness, strategic priorities, and institutional advancement goals.
- Research, execute, track results, and report on assigned marketing tactics and projects.
Copywriting, Content Creation, and Brand Messaging
- Work closely with the marketing and communications team to create compelling messaging for student recruitment, alumni and donor engagement, and institutional branding and strategic priorities initiatives.
- Write and refine copy for digital and print advertisements, brochures, emails, events, signage, videos, and other formats as assigned.
- Ensure content aligns with the university’s brand voice, messaging framework, and strategic priorities.
- Collaborate with designers, videographers, and marketing colleagues to develop integrated digital campaigns.
- Work with Senior Manager of Brand and Marketing to develop editorial or content tracking to ensure strategic alignment and timely delivery of brand, strategic priorities, and institutional advancement campaigns.
Collaboration and Project Management
- Work closely with admission, advancement, and academic departments to craft messaging that supports recruitment, retention, and fundraising efforts.
- Contribute to institutional storytelling efforts by identifying and developing content that highlights the university’s mission, student success, faculty expertise, and alumni impact.
- Stay informed about best practices in brand compliance, marketing, copywriting, and audience engagement, and recommend and implement innovative content strategies.
- Participate in project planning meetings and contribute to timelines and content workflows, especially for large campaigns.
Marketing Operations
- Develop and track production schedules to ensure marketing deliverables for recruitment, institutional events, branding, strategic priorities, and other efforts are completed on time.
Administrative Operations
- Assist with processing invoices and tracking expenses for marketing projects.
- Order office supplies and maintain the organization of shared working spaces and digital files.
- Manage event collateral, ensuring timely updates and availability of marketing materials.
- Assist with scheduling, agenda creation, note-taking, and follow-up on action items for various Marketing and Communications meetings.
Other Duties

This position reports to the Senior Manager of Brand and Marketing.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND KEY COMPETENCIES
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills across various media, with the ability to adapt tone and style for different platforms and audiences.
- Strong proficiency in grammar, style, and adherence to editorial guidelines.
- Ability to write persuasively and develop strategic content for different audiences.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across teams.

MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism, English, communications, marketing, or a related field OR equivalent experience.
- 2+ years of professional experience in brand or product marketing roles, preferably in higher education, nonprofit, or an agency setting.
- Demonstrated copywriting and editing skills with the ability to adapt tone and style for different platforms and audiences.
PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or similar design tools for content creation.
- Proficiency using WorkZone or similar project management software.
WORKING CONDITIONS / EQUIPMENT
Must perform the following essential functions with or without a reasonable accommodation
- Must be able to work on a computer for extended periods of time.
- Ability to work an on-call schedule.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as required and to travel occasionally for university-related events.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- This is a full time, 1.0 FTE, exempt position, 12 months a year.
- This position is primarily an on-campus role. Designated remote workdays may be set at the discretion of the department director.
Compensation and Benefits
Pay Range: $46,000.00 - $56,000.00 per year
