Prototype Operations Technician

This role supports the Global Prototype team and the wider Manufacturing Engineering organisation in the development, validation, and introduction of new products, technologies, and manufacturing processes. The successful candidate will work closely with Engineering and Technical Operations teams to support prototype builds, customer samples, process development, testing activities, and continuous improvement initiatives, helping to deliver projects and technologies that support global manufacturing operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Build, modify, test, and support prototype products and early customer sample builds
• Carry out electrical and mechanical assembly activities to a high standard of quality and safety
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, electrical schematics, technical specifications, and work instructions
• Support the Global prototype and wider global manufacturing engineering team in developing and validating new prototype products and manufacturing processes
• Support design improvement and investigations on prototype products and processes
• Assist with the introduction, development, and implementation of new manufacturing technologies and equipment such as laser welding and COBOT applications
• Troubleshoot and resolve product, process, and equipment-related issues
• Carry out testing, collect and analyse data, and produce clear technical reports to support engineering development activities.
• Maintain accurate build records, test results and process documentation, ensuring appropriate traceability.
• Work collaboratively across engineering, operations, and project teams to achieve development objectives
• Identify and implement opportunities to improve manufacturing processes, work instructions, and ways of working
• Work independently within defined responsibilities, taking ownership of assigned prototype build, test and process activities.
• Provide practical guidance, knowledge sharing and support to less-experienced technicians and other team members when required.
• Support equipment uptime through fault diagnosis, downtime investigations and preventive and corrective maintenance activities within the scope of the role.
• Carry out in-process and final inspections, identify non-conformances and promptly raise quality, product or process concerns
• Maintain high standards of documentation, traceability, quality, and housekeeping
• Promote a safe working environment through compliance with risk assessments, safe systems of work, and company procedures
• Contribute to continuous improvement activities focused on quality, efficiency, safety, and operational excellence

To be successful in this role you will need the following

• Mechanical/Electrical assembly experience
• Experience with hand tools
