This is your opportunity to contribute to the safe, sustainable, and responsible development of mine waste facilities that support the mining industry. As a Junior Mine Waste/Geotechnical Engineer, you’ll work alongside experienced professionals on tailings storage facilities, waste rock dumps, and water management systems, gaining hands-on experience in field investigations, analysis, and project delivery while helping shape the future of mining infrastructure.

Your Impact

• Conduct geotechnical site investigations and dam construction quality assurance fieldwork to support safe and reliable mine waste facilities.
• Interpret site investigation and laboratory testing data to inform engineering decisions and project recommendations.
• Prepare and contribute to technical reports, assessments, and project documentation.
• Perform stability, seepage, and liquefaction analyses to evaluate facility performance and risk.
• Support the development and implementation of mine waste management strategies and plans.
• Monitor and evaluate the performance of tailings storage facilities, waste rock dumps, and water management systems.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including geologists, environmental scientists, water resource engineers, and project managers.
• Provide technical support during project planning, design, construction, and operational phases.

The Skills That Set You Apart

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Strong understanding of geotechnical engineering principles and industry best practices.
• 0 to 3 years of experience in mine waste management, geotechnical engineering, mining, or a related field.
• Experience using geotechnical software such as GeoStudio.
• Eligibility for Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) registration or active registration with a provincial engineering association.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret technical data.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to contribute effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
• Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel to project sites and perform fieldwork as required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience with tailings dam design, assessment, or management.
• Familiarity with environmental regulations, permitting requirements, and mining industry standards.
• Exposure to project coordination or project management activities.
• Residence in or willingness to relocate to the Sudbury area.

Compensation

• AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $73,400 – $97,200
• MB & ON: $67,000 – $92,200
• NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $66,300 – $88,000
