Practice Infectious Disease Registered Nurse

Summary

The Practice Infectious Disease RN provides specialty care and treatment, as directed by the provider, under the supervision of the practice manager, by evaluation and assessment skills specific to Infectious Disease nursing. Will cross over to assessment and care planning for in-patient, Emergency Room and Ambulatory Care Center patients, as well as case management of patients without resources and/or for the infectious disease and HIV population.

Education

Graduate from an accredited nursing program; Bachelor's degree desirable.

Certification, Registration & Licensure

• Certification required to obtain: Certification in Infection Control within 3 years of hire.
• Licensure required: Registered Nurse licensure through the NH State Board of Nursing.

Experience

Minimum of two years experience in acute care or medical/surgical setting. Experience with IV/PICC placement and management required. Experience with Infectious disease desirable. Additional expertise or clinical functions will be required to be obtained within one year.

Responsibilities

Bases care management actions by applying principles of purposeful, organized thinking to make sound clinical judgment/decisions.

Interfaces with patient, physicians, nurses, social workers, other hospital departments, community based facilities, services and financial institutions as necessary, to affect changes in the management of cases, monitoring delivery of services and/or to secure the necessary resources.

Manages an independent caseload of patient office visits.

Performs both physical and psychosocial assessments.

Triages patient phone calls.

Documents into the patient electronic medical record.

Provides education to patients.

Administers prescribed medications.

Acts as a resource to all staff regarding clinical questions and decisions.

Performs job specific requirements and other duties as assigned.
