About The Role

Employed on a per-load-unit basis for a given semester or term. Sole contracted responsibilities are those activities required in the delivery of a course (e.g., mentoring/coaching, preparation, teaching, grading, office hours). In some instances, there may be some contracted responsibilities for advising, course development or meeting other departmental needs.
The Messiah University Department of Communication values a holistic, liberal arts approach to our discipline. The department’s mission is to educate students to become more competent, creative, and compassionate communicators in the realms of rhetorical, relational, mediated, and visual communication. Fostering connections between Christian faith and the study of communication in personal, vocational, and public life, we believe that communication can be used to solve human problems, promote meaningful relationships, bridge cultural divides, produce effective messages, and improve the quality of human life.
Messiah’s communication major helps the student to further their knowledge in the general field of communication with the flexibility to take courses in areas that interest them most. Learning to apply theories effectively and ethically in a wide range of communication specialties, students graduate with the foundation needed to pursue communication-related careers or further their education through graduate studies.
Teach undergraduate classes on an as-needed basis. Create and maintain a course page in Canvas LMS structure; design and grade assessments of student learning; respond to students in a timely manner via weekly office hours and/or email.
Courses typically meet face to face for 2.5-hours/week for 15 weeks either in three 50-minute lectures (MWF) or two 75-minute lectures. Scheduling may be adjustable, but typically occurs between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Responsibilities specific to the class taught will be communicated on an individual basis.
Advanced degree or significant experience in the area relevant for the course that will be taught. Candidates must evidence the potential for strong classroom teaching and positive student interaction and mentorship. Messiah University selects its educators for their Christian commitment as well as their proven teaching ability.
