Main Focus of the Role

This role is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable Java-based applications, REST APIs, and Microservices. The successful candidate will leverage expertise in Java 17/21, Spring Boot, Kafka, Cloud-Native technologies, and Kubernetes to deliver high-performance, resilient solutions while supporting strategic initiatives across Telstra's engineering landscape.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable Java applications and Microservices.
• -
• Build and enhance REST APIs and API Gateway integrations.
• -
• Troubleshoot complex production and application issues.
• -
• Develop high-quality code with robust automated testing.
• -
• Work with Kafka, SQL, and NoSQL databases to deliver reliable solutions.
• -
• Support CI/CD pipelines, containerized deployments, and cloud-native platforms.
• -
• Participate in solution design, architecture reviews, and technical decision-making.
• -
• Mentor junior developers and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver business outcomes.

Essential Skills

• -
• 10+ years of Java development experience.
• -
• Strong hands-on experience with Java 17/21 and Spring Boot 3.x/4.x.
• -
• Proven experience building Microservices, REST APIs, and API Gateways.
• -
• Strong understanding of JVM internals, memory management, garbage collection, multithreading, and performance tuning.
• -
• Experience with Kafka, SQL, and NoSQL databases (preferably Couchbase).
• -
• Hands-on experience with JUnit, automated testing, and SonarQube/code quality tools.
• -
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Docker, Kubernetes/OpenShift, and cloud-native environments.
• -
• Strong troubleshooting, technical design, and problem-solving skills.
• -
• Ability to support, deploy, and maintain production applications.
• -
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and mentoring skills.
• -
• Ability to work under pressure and deliver to tight deadlines.

Desired Skills

• Python scripting or development experience.
• -
• Experience in telecommunications or large-scale enterprise environments.
• -
• Exposure to cloud-native architectures and distributed systems.
• -
• Australian Citizen preferred.
