Position Purpose

The Assistant Grocery Manager supports the Grocery Manager in overseeing the daily operations of the Grocery Department. This position helps ensure merchandise is properly stocked, displayed, and replenished while maintaining excellent customer service, food safety standards, inventory control, and associate productivity. The Assistant Grocery Manager assists with department leadership and assumes responsibility for the department in the Grocery Manager's absence.

Key Responsibilities Department Operations

• Assist in managing daily Grocery Department operations.
• Ensure shelves, displays, end caps, and promotional merchandise are properly stocked and maintained.
• Monitor inventory levels and coordinate replenishment activities.
• Maintain department merchandising standards, pricing accuracy, and product rotation.
• Support the execution of company promotional and seasonal programs.
• Ensure proper receiving, storage, and handling of merchandise.

Leadership & Team Development

• Assist with supervising grocery clerks, stockers, and department associates.
• Provide coaching, training, and performance feedback to associates.
• Promote a positive, productive, and customer-focused work environment.
• Support scheduling and labor management activities.
• Assist with onboarding and training new associates.

Customer Service

• Deliver and promote exceptional customer service throughout the department.
• Resolve customer concerns promptly and professionally.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked shopping environment.
• Assist customers with product location and selection.

Inventory & Merchandising

• Monitor inventory movement and identify opportunities to reduce out-of-stocks.
• Support inventory counts and shrink reduction initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with company merchandising guidelines.
• Verify pricing integrity and promotional signage accuracy.
• Assist in ordering and inventory management activities.

Safety & Compliance

• Ensure compliance with company policies, food safety standards, and sanitation requirements.
• Maintain safe work practices and support accident prevention efforts.
• Ensure department equipment is operated safely and maintained properly.
• Support regulatory compliance and company audit readiness.

Financial Performance

• Assist with achieving department sales, labor, shrink, and profitability goals.
• Monitor department performance metrics and support action planning.
• Help identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and sales results.
