Job Description

Global Subsurface Solutions (GSS) is a global organization within bp Subsurface which delivers high-quality, high impact, subsurface technical products to address critical business challenges across bp’s oil, gas, and low carbon businesses.

As a geophysicist you will be deployed as part of an integrated, multi-disciplinary agile squad. You will use your deep technical skills in geophysics, have a bias to subsurface integration and a thorough appreciation of subsurface uncertainty and risk to deliver integrated subsurface descriptions and predictions to underpin resource progression, field and area development planning and well delivery in a manner consistent with bp’s Well Delivery Process.

What you will deliver

As a member of Global Subsurface Solutions (GSS) who will be deployed as required to a prioritized project (squad), you will be accountable for embracing the agile operating model in delivery of high-quality sub-surface products which impact business decisions.

• deliver prioritized activities within a squad in line with the squad mission, Terms of Reference (ToR) and Self-verification Plans (SvPs)
• promote squad safety and wellbeing, and work at a sustainable capacity
• maintain relationships with partners and stakeholders to ensure delivery of effective products
• work with discipline members to understand and develop standards and best practices, integrate multi-disciplinary activity and share learnings
• maintain discipline health - accountable for the quality of own products and for undertaking self-verification
• work constructively with Discipline Leader and others to build and implement a personal development plan
• Promote BP's commitment to safe, responsible and sustained performance, and demonstrate strong individual behaviours in line with BP Values and Leadership Expectations

Experience and Qualifications

• BSc in Geology, Geophysics, Geosciences or Natural Sciences
• Experience in delivering integrated geoscience and seismic interpretation deliverables across the subsurface value chain
• Experience in the application of geophysics from early field appraisal and development through to mature field optimisation
• Ability to integrate multiple vintages and qualities of geophysical products with other subsurface data and disciplines
• A dedication to agile working practices and tools
• Ability to characterize subsurface uncertainty and demonstrate effective management of risks
• Ability to deliver fit for purpose products to support business decisions
• Ability to build a strong network within bp's Subsurface community
• Strong collaboration and relationship building skills
• Effective in planning and prioritization
• Strong communication skills
• DESIRABLE CRITERIA
• minimum of 3 years experience as a geophysicist/geoscientist in an upstream hydrocarbon business
• Experience with bp's subsurface toolkits, including Petrel.

You will work with

Global subsurface solutions (GSS) Teams provide technical services to region delivery teams and will be accountable for a large portion of "WHAT" work is delivered in subsurface. GSS squads will be responsible for subsurface work to be delivered through the value chains and end-to-end workflows and will be deployed onto a prioritized backlog of business delivery activities.

Key stakeholders and receivers of GSS Team deliverables are Upstream and Subsurface businesses in regions. Collaboration will be necessary with supporting teams in Technology, Global Wells, Global Projects and Finance enablers when necessary.

Future Location Notice: This role will start in Sunbury, London. bp has announced a planned office move to Timber Square, London, with all positions currently advertised in Sunbury, including this one, expected to relocate around Q4 2027-Q1 2028. This presents an exciting opportunity for all employees and leaders to come together in one London location. The specific date of the move will be confirmed closer to the time.
