Job Description

The Global Modelling Team (GMT) within the Reservoir & Base Management Specialists provides reservoir modelling expertise to support assets across bp's global portfolio. As a Reservoir Engineer, you will contribute to integrated modelling studies that inform reservoir management, field development planning, infill drilling opportunities and production forecasting, helping maximise value from bp's assets.

This is an exciting time to join the team as bp modernises its reservoir simulation workflows and deploys the Echelon simulator across the business. Working alongside experienced reservoir engineers and geoscientists, you will have the opportunity to apply new approaches and technologies while developing your technical skills in reservoir simulation and uncertainty management.

Working across a diverse portfolio of assets, you will gain experience in different basins, reservoir types and operating environments. You will contribute to simulation studies that support business decisions, build expertise in integrated reservoir evaluation, and develop a broad understanding of reservoir management challenges across bp's Upstream portfolio.

What you will deliver

• Build, update and apply reservoir simulation models and ensembles, while coaching and supporting others in their effective use.
• Collaborate with geoscientists, geomodellers, petrophysicists and petroleum engineers to deliver integrated subsurface studies.
• Develop simulation solutions that reflect business priorities, reservoir uncertainty and geological reality.
• Work closely with regional teams to understand their challenges and deliver fit-for-purpose modelling workflows and insights.
• Facilitate model framing and fitness-for-purpose reviews, and support technical assurance activities.
• Ensure simulation studies start with high-quality, fit-for-purpose ISD and RPP inputs.
• Build strong, trusted relationships with customers through a responsive, service-oriented approach.

Experience and Qualifications

Essential

• Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering, Reservoir Engineering or a related subsurface discipline.
• Foundation in reservoir engineering principles, including reservoir performance analysis, reservoir management and production forecasting.
• Appreciation of how reservoir simulation can be used to support technical and business decisions.
• Ability to integrate and interpret data from across subsurface disciplines, including geology and petrophysics.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a desire to develop technical expertise.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing business needs.
• Proactive learning mindset and willingness to share knowledge and support team capability building.

Preferred

• Experience in reservoir simulation and uncertainty quantification.
• Experience using reservoir simulation models to support reservoir management or development decisions.
• Familiarity with industry-standard simulation software such as Echelon, ECLIPSE and/or Nexus.
• Experience with reservoir engineering tools such as PETEX IPM, or exposure to scripting and digital workflows.
• Experience in waterflood management and/or gas reservoir management.

You will be part of bp's Global Modelling Team (GMT) within Reservoir & Base Management Specialists, a diverse and collaborative team of reservoir engineers, geoscientists and subsurface specialists supporting assets across bp's global portfolio.

In this role, you will work closely with reservoir engineers, geomodellers, geologists, petrophysicists and production engineers to deliver integrated subsurface studies and modelling solutions. You will also partner with asset teams and regional stakeholders worldwide, providing opportunities to build a broad professional network and gain exposure to a wide range of reservoirs, development challenges and business contexts.

Future Location Notice: This role will start in Sunbury, London. bp has announced a planned office move to Timber Square, London, with all positions currently advertised in Sunbury, including this one, expected to relocate around Q4 2027-Q1 2028. This presents an exciting opportunity for all employees and leaders to come together in one London location. The specific date of the move will be confirmed closer to the time.
