About the Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Security Engineer to join the Application and Cloud Security team.

As we continue to modernise our cloud and application security capabilities, this role will play a key part in delivering several strategic initiatives, including the rollout of GitLab, Wiz, Wiz Code, and broader DevSecOps capabilities across Telstra.

This position is ideal for an engineer who is passionate about cloud security, secure software delivery, automation, and technical leadership. You will work closely with engineering teams, architects, product owners, and cyber stakeholders to design, build, and operationalise security capabilities that enable secure-by-design development at scale.

What You'll Be Doing

• Lead the design and implementation of cloud and application security capabilities across Telstra platforms.
• Translate high-level architecture and security requirements into detailed solution designs and implementation patterns.
• Drive the deployment and integration of security tooling within CI/CD pipelines, including GitLab, Wiz, Wiz Code, SAST, SCA, and other DevSecOps controls.
• Design and automate security processes across development and production environments.
• Partner with platform and engineering teams to embed security controls into cloud-native solutions.
• Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and capability uplift across the team.
• Support strategic security initiatives and contribute to achieving key delivery milestones.
• Collaborate with technical and business stakeholders to communicate security risks, requirements, and outcomes effectively.

What We're Looking For

Essential Experience

• Deep expertise in Cloud Security and platform security engineering.
• Strong experience securing cloud-native environments across AWS, Azure, Kubernetes and container platforms.
• Demonstrated ability to convert architecture and security principles into detailed designs and implementation patterns.
• Hands-on experience implementing and integrating security tooling into CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with GitLab, Wiz, Wiz Code, SAST, SCA, container security, and related DevSecOps capabilities.
• Software engineering or automation background with strong scripting and development skills.
• Proven ability to automate security controls and improve developer security workflows.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to influence both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Demonstrated success delivering complex security outcomes in fast-paced environments.

Leadership Capability

• Ability to provide technical leadership across multiple initiatives.
• Experience mentoring engineers and uplifting team capability.
• Strong problem-solving skills and a pragmatic, outcome-focused approach.
• Passion for continuous improvement and driving security engineering excellence.
