Patient Care Technician Medical Surgical

Baystate Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician to join our Medical Surgical at Baystate Wing Hospital in Palmer, Massachusetts. Our Medical Surgical unit is a 46-bed unit includes telemetry and intermediate care and provides care for the emergency department’s overflow. Nurses are cross trained to provide coverage in telemetry, IMC and the ED for this reason, making this a great opportunity for a new nurse looking to gain experience in multiple specialties.

Baystate Wing Hospital is a 74-bed community hospital in Palmer, Massachusetts, fully accredited by the Joint Commission and designated a Primary Stroke Service hospital by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

The Patient Care Technician Will

• Provided safe, age-appropriate patient care, assisting with activities of daily living, mobility, elimination, and personal care while promoting patient dignity and safety.
• Monitored and accurately documented vital signs, weights, intake/output, and other physiological parameters; promptly reported significant changes in patient condition to nursing staff.
• Assisted with treatments, procedures, dressing changes, specimen collection, point-of-care testing, and physician examinations in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
• Provided one-to-one patient observation as needed, recognized changes in patient condition or safety concerns, and responded appropriately to emergency situations.
• Collaborated effectively with nurses, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members while maintaining clear communication, accurate documentation, and patient-centered care.

• Schedule: Three twelve hour shifts per week
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend

Required Skills

• High School diploma or GED
• BLS CPR Certification through American Heart Association

Preferred Qualifications & Skills

• At least one year of patient care experience (this experience can vary in level of long-term care, specialty, acute care

Compensation

Note: The compensation range(s) in the table below represent the base salaries for all positions at a given grade across the health system. Typically, a new hire can expect a starting salary somewhere in the lower part of the range. Actual salaries may vary by position and will be determined based on the candidate's relevant experience. No employee will be paid below the minimum of the range. Pay ranges are listed as hourly for non-exempt employees and based on assumed full time commitment for exempt employees.
