Operational Planning

- Provide input into departmental business plans, annual budgets, forecasts, and strategic initiatives to support business objectives.

General Ledger Month-end and Reconciliations

Manage the end-to-end month-end close process for commission-related accounts, ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of all financial transactions.

Review and approve commission accruals, provisions, journals, and accounting adjustments in accordance with IFRS and MTN accounting policies.
-
Ensure all commission-related accruals and journals are processed within agreed financial reporting timelines.
-
Develop and maintain commission forecasting models and perform variance analysis between forecast, actual, and accrued commission costs.
-
Prepare monthly management commentary explaining commission variances, cost drivers, and financial trends.
-
Perform and review monthly balance sheet reconciliations for all commission-related accounts, ensuring reconciling items are investigated and resolved timeously.
-
Reconcile commission accruals, provisions, payments, clawbacks, reversals, and adjustments to ensure financial completeness and accuracy.
-
Ensure all commission transactions processed in operational and sub-ledger systems are accurately mapped to the General Ledger.

Review and maintain General Ledger account mappings and accounting treatment for commission-related transactions.

Monitor dormant, suspense, and control accounts and investigate any unexpected movements.
-
Manage and review General Ledger reconciliations performed by Shared Services and other finance support functions.
-
Review and validate commission-related creditor reconciliations and outstanding liabilities.
-
Ensure compliance with IFRS, internal controls, accounting policies, and audit requirements in all commission accounting activities.

Prepare reconciliations, supporting schedules, and audit evidence for Internal Audit, External Audit, and Group Audit reviews.

Identify and implement process improvements to strengthen financial controls, reconciliation accuracy, and reporting efficiency.

Ensure all commission accounting entries are adequately supported, approved, and compliant with Delegation of Authority requirements.
Commission and Claims Management review and approval
-
Manage and oversee the end-to-end commission and claims management process, ensuring accurate, complete, and timely calculation, validation, approval, and payment in accordance with approved commercial agreements, policies, and business rules.

Ensure commission structures, incentive schemes, payment rules, and claims processes are correctly implemented and maintained within commission systems.

Review and approve commission calculations, claims, adjustments, reversals, clawbacks, and payment schedules prior to processing.

Ensure commissions and incentives are paid accurately and timeously to trade partners, dealers, franchisees, sales channels, and MTN employees in line with contractual obligations.

Interpret and apply commercial agreements to ensure accurate implementation of commission terms, performance measures, payment conditions, and clawback provisions.
-
Establish and maintain effective controls to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of commission and claims processing.
-
Review commission expenditure, payment trends, and claims activity against approved budgets and forecasts, identifying risks and recommending corrective action where required.

Ensure all commission and claims transactions are supported by appropriate documentation, approvals, and audit trails.

Develop and maintain management reporting and insights on commission performance, claims activity, payment accuracy, compliance, and key operational trends.

Ensure legal agreements and commercial contracts adequately address commission, incentive, claims, payment, and recovery requirements.

Identify and mitigate risks relating to commission leakage, overpayments, duplicate payments, fraud, and non-compliance.

Lead the implementation of commission-related projects, system enhancements, and process improvements to improve operational efficiency and governance.
Change Management

- Ensure that business changes are assessed to analysis impact on commissions

- Define a Change management checklist for the relevant streams.
- -
- Identify all key commissions impacting changes and the requirements for these changes to not negatively impact the accuracy and completeness of commissions.
- -
- Review RDS/attend change meetings for new products/changes to existing products to identify commissions risks and to assess based on the change management checklist
- -
- Raise risks/concerns with the sales/product/project teams
- -
- Ensure that risks and concerns are adequately mitigated

- Provide regular feedback to marketing and key stakeholders regarding the impact of changes
- -
- Implement primary controls to monitor the accuracy and completeness of the data used in the calculations as well as the rules applied
Automation and Transformation
- -
- Lead business ownership of commission Automations across associated platforms.
- -
- Drive migration of commission models from legacy environments.
- -
- Define system requirements and business rules.
- -
- Drive continuous improvement, automation, and optimisation of commission and claims processes, systems, controls, and reporting capabilities.

- Review and approve UAT, SIT and production readiness testing.
- -
- Ensure automation of manual calculations and reporting processes.
- -
- Drive continuous enhancement of commission platforms and reporting capabilities.
Governance and Controls
- -
- Design and implement commission governance frameworks.
- -
- Ensure contractual compliance of all commission payments.
- -
- Monitor commission risks and control effectiveness.
- -
- Monitor and enforce compliance with commercial agreements, company policies, governance requirements, and delegation of authority frameworks.
- -
- Support internal, external, and regulatory audits by providing commission calculations, reconciliations, supporting documentation, and responses to audit queries.

- Implement preventative and detective controls.
- -
- Perform commission health checks and risk assessments.
- -
- Ensure compliance with Internal Audit, Group Audit and External Audit requirements.

- Monitor compliance with Delegation of Authority and commission policies.

- Ensure compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)

- Ensure that all of Consumer Shared Services Department’s policies, procedures and processes are implemented, maintained and adhered to.

- Ensure adherence to applicable PPP’s, further and in line with this to ensure a financially viable Financial Management Department is in tact

Customer Relations and Satisfaction

- Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring the delivery of high-quality finance, commission, and support services.

- Report on a monthly basis to the Senior Manager: Financial Control and Support on the performance of the department and outstanding contentious audit issues

- Recommend additional information that may be included in monthly and quarterly reports.

- Consolidate key information and translate this into meaningful intelligence for submission to Senior Management

- Review and provide input to Chief Financial Management policies & procedures, making recommendations as necessary.

- Perform Business Analysis MTN SA Business Analysis in line with the methodology and guidelines

Education
- -
- 4 year Degree / Diploma in Financial Management / Accounting / Internal Auditing/or related
Experience
- Minimum 7-8 years' experience in Finance, Commissions, Incentive Compensation, Commercial Finance, Financial Control or Telecommunications Finance.
- Minimum 5 years' management or supervisory experience.
- Experience in commission systems, analytics and automation projects.
- Experience managing audits and regulatory reviews.
