Algorithm Developer

We're hiring an Algorithm Engineer to join our crew at QOCO Systems!
Did you study both computer science and applied mathematics and find yourself wishing you didn't have to choose? Do you want your optimization work to end up in a product that real companies depend on every day, rather than in a report? Then we would love to hear from you.
At QOCO, we develop SaaS solutions that help global airlines and MROs (Maintenance, Repair and Operations) turn complex data into smooth operations and reduced aircraft downtime. One of those products is Assignment, a SaaS solution used for planning aircraft maintenance effectively. The solver is what drives that planning.
This role sits between the algorithms and the software. You'll support our algorithm engineer on the solver itself, and work with the development team to get that solver running properly inside a production environment. It's a genuinely rare combination, and it's the reason we're looking for someone with real depth on both sides.
What you'll be doing

Supporting our algorithm engineer on the development and improvement of our solver

Translating mathematical models and algorithms into working, maintainable code

Working with the development team to implement and integrate the solver into Assignment, our live SaaS product

Making optimization work reliably in production: performance, correctness, and behaviour under real customer data

Helping the team understand what the algorithms actually do, and helping the algorithm side understand what production requires
What we're looking for

A Master's degree in computer science, applied mathematics, operations research or a related field, or one you're about to finish

Genuine exposure to both computer science and applied mathematics during your studies. This combination is the core of the role

A solid grasp of mathematical optimization: linear and integer programming, constraint programming, combinatorial optimization, or scheduling and assignment problems

The ability to write real code, not just prototypes. You should be comfortable working in a proper codebase with other developers

Curiosity about the problem domain, and the patience to work on something complex

Fluent English, written and spoken
We're open to candidates coming straight out of their Master's. What matters more than years of experience is that the mathematics and the software are both genuinely yours.
Nice to have

Hands-on experience with a solver (for example OR-Tools, Gurobi, CPLEX or Local Search solvers)

Experience with production software or SaaS environments

Interest in aviation

Experience with Java as a software language
