Director Logistics Trade Operations Transformation

This individual contributor role sits at the intersection of global trade expertise and data-driven systems design and strategy. The Director will maintain operational excellence in day-to-day trade activities (measured via KPIs on failure modes and touchless performance) while owning the transformation and three-year roadmap for Honeywell’s global trade systems and their interfaces with logistics operations.

The core mandate is to drive automation and build robust data structures that systematically error-proof export compliance, import/export processes, and related regulatory requirements worldwide. Success depends on close partnership with the Global Trade team (reports into Legal), Logistics Systems Engineering, and Business Teams teams to optimize the current and future integrated ERP → TMS → GTM technology stack.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy & Systems Roadmap

• Own the three-year strategy for global trade systems architecture, data models, and logistics interfaces, ensuring alignment with enterprise technology roadmaps and evolving regulatory requirements.
• Evaluate and recommend optimal trade system integrations (including SAP GTS and alternatives such as Know Your Goods / KYG) into Honeywell Technologies primarily SAP ERP environment and enterprise data warehouse.
• Identify automation opportunities in specialized trade zones, including U.S. Foreign Trade Zones (FTZs), global bonded warehouses, and other unique, highly labor-intensive structures.
• Support our portfolio MA&D tactically and in the design of solutions that enable quick synergy gain and portfolio shaping.

Operational Excellence & Automation

• Maintain operational excellence across current logistics trade operations, measured via KPIs focused on touchless and error-free trade flows combined with strong feedback loops to data owners.
• Lead automation programs and design data structures/governance that reduce manual intervention and prevent compliance errors in export controls, customs, preferential trade programs, and broader import/export activities.
• Though leader for Global Trade automation for Honeywell Technologies SAP ERP, including driving best practice for choices between SAP and our enterprise data warehouse and tech stack including platforms and models such as Databricks, Snowflake, and others to solve problems and deliver automation at the enterprise level.

Cross-Functional Partnership & Risk Management

• Partner closely with the with Logistics Operations, Global Trade, Business Operations, ERP deployment teams, Honeywell IT, and our internal HMX, and GDM teams to drive optimal designs.
• Collaborate with Logistics Systems Engineering and Automation teams on the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the ERP-TMS-GTM ecosystem and our grown organic software for Freight Audit, Sourcing, and network optimization.
• Monitor and translate current and proposed regulatory changes, geopolitical shifts, tariff impacts, and sanctions developments into automated system, simple processes, and proactive data requirements by delivering the data before the prompt is conceived.
• Provide thought leadership and serve as a bridge across operational logistics, systems, and legal/compliance stakeholders to understand complex operations, identify the critical problem to be solve and design the solution that exceeds expectation.

Performance & Continuous Improvement

• Establish and track critical KPIs, with emphasis on percent improvement in touchless/automated transactions and reduction in compliance exposure welcoming new failure modes as job security and fun automation challenges.
• Influence cross-functional investment decisions and process redesign related to trade technology and data with global views on the monetary and enterprise opportunity for speed, customer satisfaction, growth and automation.

Required Qualifications

Experience

• 7+ years of progressive experience in global trade, logistics operations, within a manufacturing environment a personal leadership bias of make vs buy solutions
• Background inclusive of strong global movement experience with regulated dangerous goods such as electronics, batteries, chemicals, pharma, or medical.

Trade Compliance Expertise

• Export compliance (EAR, ITAR, and equivalent regimes), customs processes, free trade agreements, and international logistics.
• Continuous learning and active engagement in global trade developments, supported by a strong professional network and ongoing monitoring of a three-year horizon of emerging trade changes and new requirements worldwide.
• Multiple tactical success experiences with creating and running special trade structures such as IMMEX, U.S. Foreign Trade Zones (FTZs), Global bonded areas / special customs supervision zones, or other.
• Business continuity experience managing frequent global changes; viewing black swans from the lens of one who was surprised only by event details but had personal playbook for mitigating most logistics and trade impacts.

Systems, Data & Automation

• Proven ability to extract, understand and simplify business processes before translating into effective software design.
• Strong capability in data and software architecture, process automation, and designing digital governance and controls exceeding traditional standards.

Leadership & Soft Skills

• Experience leading or influencing across large, global, complex matrix organizations.
• Excellent strategic thinking, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
• The ability to leverage PowerPoint or better convincing infographics to drive consensus in a multinational industrial technology matrix environment at a level higher than your direct manager.
• Ability, willingness, and excitement to travel domestic and internationally up to 15%.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity common and emerging trade software such as KYG, SAP, and emerging start-up or TMS integrated solutions with and the ability to evaluate/design optimal integrations into SAP ERP and the enterprise data warehouse.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Logistics, IT, or a related field (Advanced degree preferred or compelling equivalent career success)
• Understanding of automation approaches both inside and outside SAP, including enterprise data warehouse solutions with Databricks, Snowflake, or similar platforms.
• Experience leading digital transformation or large-scale systems implementation programs in logistics and trade or technical founding global trade software in venture capital or private equity environments.
• Background in global manufacturing operations enabling quick ability to identify problem, process, and failure modes
