Who are we looking for?

We’re seeking a Senior Protection Engineer to join our Electrical Delivery team.

Bring your protection engineering expertise to major Australian projects supporting renewable energy, power networks and critical infrastructure. Working with utilities, government authorities, asset owners and industry partners, you’ll help deliver reliable, affordable and lower-carbon power solutions across GHD’s global markets.

Working with a collaborative and capable team, you will

• Prepare protection settings calculations and relay settings files
• -
• Prepare and review substation secondary designs, technical reports, specifications and tender documentation
• -
• Work with clients and contractors to define technical requirements during tendering and project delivery
• -
• Provide technical and construction support throughout the project lifecycle
• -
• Scope electrical work and contribute to tenders and proposals
• -
• Lead a small team independently, allocating and delegating project work to support effective delivery
• -
• Arrange regular team meetings and mentor graduate engineers to build capability and confidence
• -
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineers across GHD offices to pursue and deliver project opportunities
• -
• Review design drawings, protection settings and reports to support consistent quality outcomes

What you will bring to the team

• -
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
• -
• Substantial relevant protection engineering experience delivering projects for power utilities or other relevant clients
• -
• Experience preparing protection settings, relay settings files and substation secondary designs
• -
• Demonstrated experience in power system modelling using DIgSILENTPowerFactory, ETAP or similar software

It would also be helpful if you have

Experience delivering Western Power projects or working in a comparable utility environment

Experience in substation secondary design across voltage levels from 11 kV to 330 kV

Knowledge of protection schemes and IEC 61850

Well-developed written and verbal communication skills

A collaborative approach, with the ability to work autonomously, manage competing priorities and support the development of others
