About the Role

As a Senior Lecturer in Surgery, you will play a pivotal role in advancing academic excellence across teaching, research and clinician academic capacity development within the College of Medicine and Public Health. You will contribute to innovative teaching, impactful research, student supervision, and the development of strategic partnerships that enhance learning and research outcomes.

This position presents an excellent opportunity for an established surgeon seeking to complement their clinical practice with a rewarding academic appointment, contributing to teaching, research, mentorship and clinician scientist development while maintaining strong connections to the healthcare sector.

Key responsibilities

Lead the planning, delivery and evaluation of Clinician Scientist Academy initiatives in collaboration with senior University and health sector stakeholders.
Drive high-quality research outcomes through publications, grant acquisition, researcher mentoring, and supervision of honours and higher degree research students.
Deliver inspiring and innovative teaching, including curriculum development, placement education leadership, and the use of contemporary learning technologies.
Build and maintain strategic relationships with industry, professional organisations and healthcare partners while contributing to college leadership, quality assurance and accreditation activities.

This position makes a significant contribution to the University’s strategic plan to change 10 million lives, Every One Matters, by 2035 through directly contributing to the Strategic Driver of 'Research that Matters'. By leading impactful surgical research, mentoring emerging clinician scientists, and strengthening partnerships between academia and healthcare, the role helps translate knowledge into meaningful health, education and community outcomes.

To be successful in this position, you will

You hold a PhD (or equivalent qualification) and have a demonstrated track record of excellence in tertiary teaching, curriculum development and course coordination.
You have an established research profile, including high-quality publications, success in securing competitive funding, and experience supervising honours and higher degree research students.
You are an engaging leader and mentor with the ability to foster collaborative, high-performing teams and support the development of students and early career researchers.
You possess exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with experience building productive relationships across academia, healthcare, industry and professional networks.
