About The Role

The Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music at the University of Memphis invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Oboe, beginning Fall 2027. The successful candidate will be an artist-level performer and teacher with a proven record of recruiting and student success.

  • Teach applied oboe lessons, reed making, and pedagogy at the undergraduate levels.
  • Coach chamber ensembles.
  • Actively recruit, mentor, and retain oboe students; maintain an active and engaged studio.
  • Collaborate and perform with the School of Music faculty.
  • Teach coursework in an additional area (e.g., music theory, music history, etc.).
  • Maintain regional., national, and international visibility through performing and teaching engagements.
  • Serve on and/or chair doctoral committees.
  • Master's degree in oboe performance (or closely related field) required; doctorate preferred
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching applied oboe at the college level
  • Extensive experience as a soloist, chamber musician, and/or orchestral musician
  • Ability and desire to teach in an area outside of oboe
