Principal ASIC Design Engineer

As a Principal ASIC Design Engineer at Honeywell Aerospace, you will be a technical leader in our ASIC design team, responsible for driving innovation and excellence in ASIC design, leading complex projects, and mentoring engineers, while contributing to the advancement of our business and addressing critical global challenges. You will work closely with Honeywell Aerospace ASIC customers to map their design into the Honeywell Aerospace ASIC platforms and technologies.

You will report directly to our Sr Engineering Manager, and you’ll work out of our Plymouth, MN location on a hybrid work schedule.

• Lead the implementation of customer ASIC designs into Honeywell Aerospace ASIC platforms and technologies
• Lead customer-facing technical interactions and bridge between the Honeywell Aerospace ASIC design/fabrication services and the customer needs
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including physical design, IC packaging, layout verification, test, reliability and radiation effects, quality assurance, and program management to ensure timely and successful delivery of projects within scope and budget
• Design-for-test (DFT) implementations, including scan, memory BIST, and boundary scan
• Ensure the quality, reliability, and performance of ASIC products through rigorous design reviews, quality assurance processes, and testing
• Foster a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement
• Generate technical reports, documentation, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders
• Review and approve design work, ensuring it aligns with project goals and quality standards
• Create application notes, technical design checklists, and training presentations for customers and internal teams
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineering teams to foster innovation and high-quality deliverables

MUST HAVE

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related discipline
• US security clearance in good standing, or no known barriers to attain one
• Willingness and ability to work on-site (Hybrid, 3+) at the Honeywell Aerospace facility at Plymouth, MN
• 10+ years of experience in ASIC development and deployment
• Mastery of experience in advanced IC design and product development
• Proficiency in digital IC design and simulation tools
• Demonstrated knowledge of semiconductor manufacturing processes, quality control and reliability

WE VALUE

• Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or related fields
• Experience leading cross-functional teams
• Experience with Synopsys design tools including Primetime and Design Compiler
• Broad practical experience— not necessarily highly specialized—across multiple aspects of ASIC design and fabrication processes:
• RTL concepts, logic design, and logic synthesis
• Static timing constraints, static timing analysis (STA), and timing closure
• Physical design concepts including floor-planning, place and route, clock tree synthesis, power grid synthesis, electromigration, chip finishing steps, and timing closure
• Design-for-test (DFT) concepts including scan, scan compression, memory BIST, and boundary scan
• Manufacturing test and screening
• Test vector generation, fault coverage analyses, and diagnostics
• Familiarity with IC tape-out processes and signoff requirements
• ASIC packaging concepts and technologies
• Semiconductor reliability topics
• Demonstrated knowledge of earned value management systems (EVMS)
• Experience with schedules development and maintenance
• Ability to drive continuous improvement and innovation in semiconductor technologies
• Ability to clearly convey complex topics “sight sized” to highly heterogeneous external audiences set spanning, design engineers, managers, CTOs, quality engineers, reliability engineers, components engineers, program managers, project leads, and CTOs
• Ability to consistently make timely decisions to balance systematic analyses with decisiveness, even in the face of complexity and uncertainty
• Self-motivated and able to work with little supervision, to consistently take initiative to achieve objectives

The annual base salary range for this position is $173,000-$200,000. Please note that this salary information serves as a general guideline.
