About The Role

The Opportunity

Mountain Valley Maintenance is seeking a working foreman to lead our maintenance labor crew. For over 20 years, we have been a stable, year-round employer in the Vail Valley, caring for associations and homes where hundreds of Valley residents live. This crew handles the outdoor work that keeps those properties safe and looking good: snow removal in winter, landscaping and irrigation in summer, and general maintenance labor all year.

You will report to our Maintenance Manager and lead a crew of 4 to 6 laborers. This is a separate crew from our technician team. You will be in the field with your crew every day, running the work and doing the work.

What You Will Do

Crew Leadership

Lead, train, and motivate a crew of 4 to 6 maintenance laborers
Give clear safety and work instructions in English and Spanish, and run short daily safety talks
Set the example on the job: quality, pace, safety, and respect for the properties and residents
Track crew hours, daily job notes, and site photos in our Jobber software
Help the Maintenance Manager with hiring, training, and performance feedback for the crew

Snow Operations (Winter)

Run plow routes and shoveling crews during storms, starting at 3am when snow falls
Operate plow trucks, skid steers, and snow blowers, and keep the crew working safely on ice and in cold
Apply deicer, clear walkways, stairs, and entries, and check every site before leaving it
Communicate storm progress and problems to the Maintenance Manager and property managers

Landscaping and Irrigation (Summer)

Lead mowing, trimming, planting, mulching, weed control, and cleanup on association grounds
Run irrigation spring startup, seasonal adjustments, repairs, and fall winterization
Inspect properties for hazards, drainage problems, and repair needs, and report them

General Maintenance Labor (Year-Round)

Lead hauling, debris removal, painting, staining, minor repairs, and property cleanup projects
Keep trucks, trailers, and equipment clean, fueled, inspected, and ready for the next day
Order and pick up materials, and keep track of what the crew uses

What You Bring

Required

3 or more years of experience leading a crew in snow removal, landscaping, grounds, or similar outdoor maintenance work
Experience operating plow trucks and skid steers
Able to speak English and Spanish well enough to give safety and work instructions to the crew and talk with clients and property managers, and to read and write basic notes, checklists, and text messages in both languages
Valid driver's license with an insurable driving record (CDL not required)
Able to use a smartphone or tablet for time tracking, photos, and job notes
Available for 3am starts on storm days and weekend snow coverage
Authorized to work in the United States

Preferred (We Will Train the Right Person)

Irrigation experience or certification
Colorado Certified Operator or Qualified Supervisor pesticide license, or willingness to obtain one in your first season
OSHA 10 and First Aid/CPR
Experience with Jobber or similar field software
Knowledge of mountain plant material and high-altitude turf care

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Essential functions of this position, performed with or without reasonable accommodation: works outdoors year-round in all mountain weather including snow, ice, heat, and altitude. Frequently lifts, carries, and positions materials and equipment up to 50 pounds, and occasionally up to 80 pounds with a team lift. Frequently walks on uneven, sloped, or icy ground, bends, kneels, shovels, and reaches; occasionally climbs ladders. Operates trucks, trailers, and powered equipment for extended periods. Communicates clearly with crew, clients, and office staff in person, by phone, and by text. Winter schedule includes early-morning and on-call storm response.
