ABOUT THE POSITION AND THE CHEMISTRY DEPARTMENT AT NORMANDALE

The members of the Chemistry Department are committed to providing a solid foundation in chemistry to students of all backgrounds. We believe in supporting a quality education experience that provides learning opportunities for our diverse student body. Our curriculum offers courses that prepare students for completion of the Chemistry Transfer Pathway degree, other degree programs, and for transfer. We value a diversity of approaches and backgrounds in our faculty members. The Chemistry Department encourages a participatory and democratic faculty culture and affirms the engaged role our faculty have played in service to the college.

The successful candidate will be expected to

Teach in an inclusive, student-ready, and culturally responsive manner to meet the needs of our diverse student body.

Teach a broad spectrum of Chemistry courses, including laboratory, in day, evening, and alternate schedule formats utilizing online, face to face, and hybrid delivery formats.

Work as a team member in maintaining a student-ready learning environment that meets the educational needs of a diverse student body.

Contribute to department, division, and college goals, which provide the basis for program planning, implementation, evaluation and support

Engage in scholarly activities consistent with the college’s goals

Minimum Qualifications

(To be qualified for this position, you must meet all of the minimum qualifications. We encourage applicants to address their experience working with individuals or groups from diverse backgrounds as part of their cover letter.)

Master's degree with a major in chemistry OR a Master's degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester credits (27 graduate quarter credits) in chemistry.

Preferred Qualifications

Ph.D. degree in Chemistry

Experience serving diverse and underserved populations

Experience teaching in a community college setting

Experience as primary instructor teaching college Chemistry, including laboratory

Experience teaching non-majors Chemistry, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, or Biochemistry courses

Experience in online learning and in course delivery using web-based course management systems such as D2L

Experience in innovative teaching and learning approaches

Experience teaching the science laboratory, using scientific instrumentation and data acquisition software

Experience in assessment of student learning outcomes

Experience providing specific strategies to create a sense of belonging within the classroom

Experience teaching courses with innovative teaching practices to support the success and retention of underrepresented students, including students of color, first-generation students, and Pell eligible students

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Evidence of continuous professional development related to diversity, equity, and inclusion

Demonstrated commitment to participating in campus activities and professional development
