ABOUT THE POSITION AND THE HEALTH SCIENCES PROGRAM AT NORMANDALE

The candidate will teach a variety of health department courses available day, evening, weekends, and online. Courses include Contemporary Health Issues, Drug Use and Abuse, Health Professions Terminology, First Aid and CPR, and Stress Management. Candidate must demonstrate knowledge of and experience in, teaching assessment of student learning outcomes. Candidate must be able to participate in departmental initiatives involved in activities across disciplines, curriculum development, and participate in college wide committees. Faculty are expected to maintain ongoing professional development activities.

The successful candidate will be expected to

Teach a broad spectrum of health sciences courses in that may include day, evening, and alternate schedule formats utilizing traditional and alternative delivery methods and virtual learning environments

Teach in an inclusive and equitable manner to a diverse group of learners

Teach in a way that engages students, and fosters curiosity and motivation.

Be committed to the success and retention of underrepresented students

Provide quality instruction and services to students of diverse ages and backgrounds.

Demonstrate knowledge of and experience in assessment of student learning outcomes.

Develop and improve instructional methods, materials, and resources.

Participate in the development and improvement of curricula and courses

Maintain ongoing professional development activities that support the college mission, the discipline of health sciences, and learner success

Actively engage in college service, department activities, and learner support

Participate in program review and accreditation efforts

Design and deliver instruction that incorporates technologies that advance learning

Maintain ongoing professional development activities in Physics and culturally responsive pedagogy

Minimum Qualifications

Education Requirement

Master's degree with a major in health OR a Master's degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester credits (27 graduate quarter credits) in health.

Preferred Qualifications

-
Two or more years of teaching experience at the undergraduate level.
-
Experience designing and delivering curricula that are responsive to the needs of historically underrepresented and marginalized learners.

Experience using learner-centered and multimodal teaching approaches to support first-generation, immigrant, and low-income learners.
-
Experience with curriculum development in academic, community, clinical, or healthcare settings.
-
Experience with learner assessment, evaluation, and outcomes measurement.
-
Demonstrated commitment to professional development related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
-
Ability to effectively work with diverse learners and patient populations.
-
Experience teaching health promotion and disease prevention concepts.
-
Knowledge of and interest in complementary and integrative health practices.
-
Current American Heart Association (AHA) CPR Instructor certification.
