Please visit our website to read more about our business: Discover the Role As a VAT Compliance Specialist, you will be part of TMF Netherlands’ Accounting & Tax practice and work within a knowledgeable, collaborative and internationally focused VAT team. You will be responsible for preparing and reviewing VAT returns and related indirect tax compliance obligations for a diverse portfolio of Dutch and international clients, including VAT returns, EC Sales Listings, Intrastat reports and other compliance filings. You will also support responses to queries from clients, colleagues and the Dutch Tax Authorities, helping to ensure compliance and providing practical, high-quality VAT support. In this role, you will combine technical VAT knowledge with hands-on compliance work, client contact and problem-solving. Working closely with VAT, accounting and tax professionals, you will have the opportunity to further develop your expertise in Dutch and international VAT compliance. As the VAT landscape continues to evolve through developments such as VAT digitalisation, e-invoicing, ViDA, OSS and Single VAT Registration, you will gain practical experience in these areas while contributing to the continuous improvement of our VAT compliance services. The variety of clients and cross-border VAT matters makes this a dynamic role for someone who enjoys learning, taking ownership and applying VAT rules in practice. Key Responsibilities Prepare and submit Dutch VAT returns for a diverse portfolio of national and international clients. Prepare and submit EC Sales Listings, Intrastat reports and other VAT-related compliance filings. Review VAT data and identify discrepancies, risks and follow-up actions to ensure accurate and timely compliance. Respond to VAT-related queries from clients and internal stakeholders, providing practical and solution-oriented support. Liaise with the Dutch Tax Authorities regarding VAT-related correspondence, audits and compliance matters. Support clients in meeting their VAT compliance obligations, including registrations, corrections and supplementary filings where required. Collaborate closely with Accounting Officers and other Accounting & Tax professionals to ensure high-quality service delivery. Monitor relevant VAT developments and assess their practical impact on compliance processes and client obligations. Contribute to process improvements, knowledge sharing and the ongoing development of VAT compliance services. Escalate technical issues, compliance risks and client concerns in a timely and professional manner. Key Requirements We are looking for a proactive and accurate VAT professional who enjoys working in a dynamic environment and takes ownership of their work. You are eager to learn, comfortable working with deadlines and able to communicate clearly with clients, colleagues and authorities. Completed HBO or university-level education in Tax Law, Fiscal Economics, Finance, Accounting or a related field Approximately 3–5 years of relevant experience in VAT compliance, preferably in an international environment Practical knowledge of Dutch VAT and EU VAT rules Experience with VAT returns, EC Sales Listings and/or Intrastat reporting Strong analytical skills and attention to detail Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Dutch and English The ability to work accurately under deadlines A proactive, hands-on and solution-oriented mindset A willingness to learn and to keep up to date with developments in VAT and indirect tax Experience with CIT, financial statements, VAT registrations, fiscal representation, OSS, e-invoicing or ViDA is a plus.
