Job Description & Responsibilities
Join Interpro Pipe & Steel as a Quality Control Supervisor where you will lead and oversee inspection and testing activities within the pipe mill, ensuring products consistently meet established quality standards and customer requirements. This role provides leadership and support to shop floor teams, collaborates with all levels of the organization, and plays a key role in cross-functional problem-solving to address quality issues and optimize overall mill performance.
- Provide leadership in developing and maintaining safe work operating and inspection practices
- Perform periodic process and product audits (first piece validation, shift change, etc) to ensure conformance with documented work procedures. Document audit results. Monitor audit trends specific to the manufacturing lines and communicate issues to QA and Operations. Specify improvement opportunities.
- Authority and responsibility to identify processing and product non-conformances. Develop recommendations and facilitate solutions concerning reactions to problems with inspection data and work with the operating department to limit the manufacturing of non-compliant product in each production area.
- Provide dispositions for coil (Apply and Test, etc), in-process pipe or finished pipe product on quality hold
- Ensure inspection equipment is calibrated, verified according to proper frequencies, and properly maintained.
- Work with quality management to develop/improve written inspection procedures & training materials, as needed
- Disposition of off-site quality problems in Red Deer area, as necessary.
- Participate as needed in quality improvement projects including following trials, analyzing results, collecting shop floor data, etc.
Requirements
- Some post-secondary education preferred, ideally in Materials or Mechanical disciplines
- 5 years work experience in the quality department of a manufacturing-related business. Pipe and /or steel mill processes and operations a plus
- Knowledge of ISO 9001-based quality systems
- Strong interpersonal skills; ability to interact with individuals at various levels within the organization
- Experience working with interdepartmental teams at all levels of management to accomplish goals
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize responsibilities and work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong attention to detail, close observation and concentration skills
- Mechanical aptitude, good manual dexterity and good hand eye coordination
- Proficient in Word, Excel and Outlook; ability to learn other software applications
- Experience giving presentations to management regarding project results.
- Able to work effectively with hourly and management ranks
