The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
Responsibilities
Under the general direction, supports the clinical operations of the dental clinic. Provides direction and is a team leader to dental assisting staff and students, as well as performing chairside assistance and advanced dental functions as needed under NYS licensure. Coordinates clinic activities, assignments, and resources to ensure an efficient workflow. Trains and serves as a resource for staff. Addresses faculty, staff, or patient concerns as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Performs all functions of a Licensed Dental Assistant.
- Monitors and provides direction for all dental assistant activities. Serves as a resource and provides daily operational direction and technical guidance to staff and students. Coordinates activity in the clinic in regards to assignments, coverage, provider needs, etc. Oversees and ensures adequate inventory of clinic equipment, instruments, forms, and supplies. Approves replacement orders. Oversees daily preparation of dental units, staffing, and workflow to ensure efficient room utilization. Oversees and coordinates instrument repairs. Coordinates with registration staff and others to ensure a smooth flow of patients.
- Ensures operatory compliance with Infection Control, safety and regulatory requirements. Provides initial onboarding and training for new staff. Oversees subsequent training and shadowing. Assists leadership with policy development and implementation. Understands operations and makes recommendations for operational improvement to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and solve operational problems. Provides feedback on employee performance. Monitors, reviews, and assesses Quality Control data. Initiates or makes recommendations for issue resolution.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Graduate of a Dental Assistant Program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Dental and Dental Auxiliary Education Program required OR Student in a dental assisting program registered by the NYSED under the direct supervision of a licensed dentist required
- 3 years experience as a Dental Assistant or in an Operating Room environment preferred
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of dental terminology, procedures, and computer experience preferred
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
- CDA-Certified Dental Assistant New York State license or Limited Permit upon hire required OR CDA-Certified Dental Assistant New York State license or Limited Permit within 18 months if the employee is a student in a dental assisting program registered by the NYSED under the direct supervision of a licensed dentist required
