Timber Worker

A timber worker is responsible for cutting, processing, transporting, and preparing timber or wood products for construction, manufacturing, or retail use.

Typical Duties

• Operate chainsaws, harvesters, loaders, and other forestry machinery
• Cut and trim trees according to safety and environmental guidelines
• Load, unload, and transport logs or timber products
• Inspect timber for quality and defects
• Maintain tools, vehicles, and equipment
• Follow workplace health and safety procedures
• Measure and sort wood products based on specifications
• Work outdoors in varying weather conditions

Key Requirements

Education & Training

• Secondary school education is often preferred
• Vocational training in forestry, logging, or heavy equipment operation can be beneficial

Skills

• Physical stamina and strength

• Ability to operate heavy machinery safely
• Knowledge of timber grading and forestry practices
• Teamwork and communication skills
• Attention to safety and detail
• Basic mechanical skills for equipment maintenance

Experience

• Previous experience in forestry, logging, construction
• Experience operating forestry equipment is highly valued
