About The Role
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Purpose of the Position: An executive leader with deep knowledge of business and policy as they relate to environmental and regulatory matters in support of energy transportation and delivery. Responsible for the overall development and maintenance of an effective environmental and regulatory organization and to ensure that new and existing practices, policies, procedures and training are deployed across a diverse suite of energy related projects and developments. This individual will be charged with ensuring continuity of standards and processes and the ability to effectively develop and operate with the highest standards of safety, compliance, and efficiency. Works closely with company Executives and lower-level management to ensure employees have a clear understanding of the organization’s values, goals, and strategy.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Ensure that the Environmental and Regulatory Department for Capital Projects is current on all regulations, follows accepted standards and reporting requirements and evaluates their effectiveness during develop, execution and eventual operations. Sets the metrics for environmental standards and regulatory compliance and holds employees within the organization accountable for achieving the desired results. Work closely with numerous functions within and outside the organization to facilitate compliance during development and project execution with all regulatory requirements. Analyze data to assess challenges and develop effective controls. Identify and communicates best practices within and across all business lines. Lead, develop, implement and maintain all environmental programs, policies and procedures. Provide reports, trends, analysis, subject matter expertise and recommendations for critical decisions and solutions to address any deficiencies, gaps or opportunities for improvements. Improve methods for risk identification and assessment and provide recommendations for risk mitigation and acceptance. Lead and promote the environmental and regulatory organization while building a positive culture of environmental and regulatory compliance. Lead and coach all employees on interpretation and administration of environmental and regulatory policies and procedures. Develop and maintain reports to communicate to management compliance issues found or non-compliance issues with state and/or federal regulatory agencies. Lead team in support of capital project planning and permitting. Coordinate with the corporate regulatory team development and acquisition of project certifications and regulatory compliance. Ensure all employees and third-party contractors are executing their work directives in accordance with Tallgrass environmental standards and expectations. Report to Executive Management current performance and realistic future projections with regard to issues impacting performance; provide analysis, alternatives and recommendations to address problems in relation to environmental . Keep abreast of industry activities, technologies and trends ensuring that members of Executive Management are informed of developments having an impact on the business in a timely manner. Maintain a strong collaborative relationship with key internal and external stakeholders at all levels including the Executive team, Federal and State regulators, industry partners, and owner representatives. Lead team in support of Company sustainability initiatives and assessments. Demonstrate and reinforce a culture of regulatory compliance. Foster a positive open work environment, systems approaches and disciplined execution of all assigned tasks. Manage personnel related matters, including providing performance based feedback, providing support and completing administrative paperwork as needed. Maintains responsibility for the creation and execution of applicable portion of the company’s capital program and expenditure budgets, as well as initiating and directing initiatives to improve capital and operating efficiencies. Collaborates regularly across the organization to ensure compliance with regulatory and industry standards. Participates as a key member of the executive management team in the development and implementation of the company’s ongoing growth strategy. Leads multiple teams of directors, senior managers, and managers. Works closely with Human Resources to implement and refine company policies and procedures. Develops mid to long-term plans for optimizing the organization, function, or sub-function and the talent required to execute strategies in job area. Manges communications at all levels of organization, including executive leadership, on status of initiatives while proactively seeking input from key stakeholders on business projects. Deal with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy and professionalism. Speak clearly, both in person and by telephone, using a high level of verbal skills and listen carefully. Maintain a regular, dependable attendance and a consistently high level of performance. Will work non-traditional hours as needed.
Minimum Requirements: Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Business Management, Engineering/Environmental or a related discipline. Experience: A minimum of twenty (20) or more years of progressively responsible experience with a proven record of accomplishment in the oil & gas industry. Extensive experience leading, designing, managing and evaluating environmental and regulatory strategies and programs. Previous experience managing cross-functional teams and operating at a senior level. Demonstrated superior leadership outcomes in the areas of leading self, leading others, and leading an organization. Proven ability to drive positive change with continuous improvement. Proven track record of successful, innovative leadership and delivery of performance results. Demonstrated success in managing large departmental budgets. Ability to lead and manage resources that do not have a direct reporting relationship and experience leading staff and contractors in office and remote locations. Intermediate proficiency level in MS Office applications that may include but are not limited to Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook. Certifications, Licenses & Registrations: Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel). Competencies, Skills & Abilities: Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task. Strong analysis, decision-making and logic skills. Self-motivated, display a high level of initiative. Strong supervisory and leadership skills. Extensive knowledge of principles, procedures, and best practices in the industry. Must be able to perform all essential and marginal functions of the job. Must be able to work with a team, take direction from management, adhere to required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules. Ability to successfully perform multiple tasks with strict deadlines. Ability to organize and prioritize daily work. Job level commensurate with experience and skill sets; position will be filled depending on qualifications, experience and skill sets of the successful candidate.
