Accountabilities
- Support clients with full-cycle bookkeeping activities, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, bank reconciliations, payroll, journal entries, and financial reporting.
- Maintain accurate and complete financial records while ensuring accounting deadlines and month-end requirements are consistently met.
- Prepare and interpret financial statements, including balance sheets, profit and loss statements, cash-flow reports, and related financial information.
- Apply a strong understanding of cash versus accrual accounting and fundamental bookkeeping principles across multiple client accounts.
- Work directly with clients to understand their bookkeeping requirements, answer questions, resolve issues, and provide dependable financial support.
- Help streamline month-end and year-end processes by identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, documentation, and organization.
- Assist with compiling client information required for tax preparation, including relevant reports and supporting documentation.
- Research accounting questions and determine appropriate solutions or efficient ways to complete work within client systems.
- Help organize, systematize, and document bookkeeping processes and procedures.
- Proactively identify issues, risks, and opportunities that could affect client relationships or improve financial operations.
- Collaborate with colleagues and management, communicating status updates, challenges, and opportunities while escalating issues when additional guidance is needed.
- Manage multiple projects, clients, and priorities with a high level of organization, reliability, and attention to detail.
- Perform additional bookkeeping and operational duties as required.
Requirements
- 10+ years of professional bookkeeping experience, including significant full-charge bookkeeping experience across multiple clients.
- Demonstrated experience with both Canadian and U.S. bookkeeping practices, including inventory accounting.
- Strong knowledge of accounting fundamentals, financial reporting, reconciliations, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash and accrual accounting.
- Experience using bookkeeping and accounting platforms such as QuickBooks Online/Desktop, Xero, FreshBooks, Sage, NetSuite, Wave, Intacct, or similar systems.
- Strong ability to create, understand, and interpret financial reports and translate financial information into meaningful business insights.
- High level of technological proficiency and the ability to quickly learn new accounting, office, and collaboration tools.
- Experience with Google Workspace, Slack, Asana, or comparable productivity and communication platforms.
- A two-year accounting degree is preferred; relevant bookkeeping certifications such as QuickBooks ProAdvisor certification are an asset.
- Strong client-service orientation with the ability to build collaborative, respectful, and trusting relationships.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate professionally and reassuringly through video, audio, email, and other digital channels.
- Fluency in English and Spanish, both written and spoken, is required.
- Exceptional organization skills and the ability to manage competing priorities without losing track of deadlines or details.
- Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, active listening, and research skills.
- A proactive, dependable, positive, and solutions-oriented approach, including the ability to remain composed and constructive during challenging situations.
- Ability to work independently while remaining engaged with team members and management.
- Ability to work from a quiet, private, distraction-free home workspace with a closing door.
- Reliable internet connection suitable for remote work, with the ability to connect the work computer directly to the router or modem via Ethernet when required.
