About The Role
Technologist providing technical, patient support, and patient care. Communicates continuously with the physician about patient condition. Assist physician with invasive and noninvasive procedures and/or surgeries. Operates equipment safely and correctly. Assesses procedure room and/or surgical suite for equipment functioning and readiness. Obtains supplies for individual cases and ensures all appropriate needs of the procedural and/or surgical team are met. Participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities.
- Assists in the cleanup of room following procedure to include appropriate disposal of used supplies,handling of instruments, returning and restocking supplies. Also, participates in restocking, resupplying and cleaning of the support areas.
- Assists in positioning, prepping and draping patients for procedures. Gives patients explanations and verbal reassurances consistently.
- Sets up and scrubs for procedures in a timely manner maintaining aseptic technique.
- Within scope of practice, starts IV's with N/S, (no medications unless RN)
- Within scope of practice, insertion of radial or brachial arterial lines under the supervision of a physician with or without intradermal Lidocaine injection.
- Sets up and assists physician with all procedures; including but not limited to : Left Heart Catheterization, Coronary Intervention, Pacemaker and AICD insertion, Central lines, Swan Ganz, Intra Aortic Balloon Pumps and Triple Lumen Catheters. (This includes transducer setup, flush, and calibration of system.) and/or peripheral vascular, endovascular and cardiac procedures and surgeries
- Within scope of practice, insertion and removal of femoral artery sheaths under the supervision of a physician
- Operates alll hemodynamic monotoring equipment including cardiac output, AVO2 and blood gas. Records all patient values, reports and maintains records according to department policies.
- Other related job tasks or responsibilities as assigned
- Special Skills: Demonstrates critical thinking in relation to patient management and physician interaction.
- Minimum Requirements
- Experience: 2 years experience in an acute care Cardiac Catheterization Lab or CVOR.
- Education: Graduation from an accredited two year cardiovascular technology training program; or surgical technology program; or equivalent on the job training including a minimum three month orientation.
- Preferred Requirements
- Certifications: Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist. (RCIS)
