About The Role

Delivers features, resolves complex technical issues, and contributes to the design and improvement of enterprise systems. Collaborates with cross-functional teams to implement scalable, secure, and accessible solutions that support County-wide services. Supports Agile delivery cycles and helps ensure software meets business requirements, user needs, and performance goals.

Develops and implements software features across the full stack with minimal supervision. Writes clean, maintainable, and well-documented code that adheres to County standards. Ensures timely delivery of assigned sprint goals and participates in Agile ceremonies. Collaborates with QA to validate functionality and ensures defect resolution. Conducts peer code reviews to promote quality and share knowledge. Participates in design reviews and provides feedback on architecture and implementation plans. Supports bug triage and hotfixes for production incidents. Follows CI/CD processes and maintains version control and code repository hygiene.

Translates functional requirements into technical designs and user stories. Estimates effort for new features and enhancements during sprint planning. Identifies dependencies, edge cases, and technical risks early in development cycles. Works with architects and senior engineers to align on design decisions. Contributes to the development of technical documentation and process diagrams. Recommends enhancements or refactoring strategies to improve existing systems. Participates in discussions around software scalability, performance, and sustainability. Supports discovery and ideation sessions with product and design teams

Ensures code meets security, accessibility, and quality standards. Writes unit tests, supports automated testing, and validates coverage for critical components. Promotes and models test-driven development and peer validation practices. Tracks and resolves technical debt items in collaboration with product and engineering leads. Documents changes and implementation notes for team knowledge transfer. Identifies areas for process or performance improvement within the team. Assists in retrospectives and implements continuous improvement feedback. Supports system upgrades, patches, and platform modernization efforts

Works closely with product owners, designers, analysts, and QA to deliver end-to-end features. Coordinates with infrastructure, DevOps, and security teams on integration and deployment. Contributes to inter-team coordination for shared components or services. Participates in user research and accessibility reviews to ensure inclusive design. Acts as a liaison to support teams for technical issues and feature documentation. Supports vendor or partner teams on integrated technology solutions. Communicates technical constraints, trade-offs, and timelines clearly to stakeholders. Shares knowledge through internal demos, documentation, or training sessions.

Stays current with industry’s best practices, frameworks, and emerging technologies. Contributes to open-source or internal tools that benefit the development community. Mentors junior engineers or interns as appropriate. Participates in internal innovation labs, hackathons, or modernization initiatives. Explores cloud-native development practices and platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP). Demonstrates ownership and pride in solution delivery.

Communicates status updates, blockers, and risks effectively with team leads. Translates business requirements into technical implementation plans. Assists in creating internal and user-facing documentation and release notes. Presents features or updates to stakeholders during demos or sprint reviews. Supports feedback sessions with non-technical stakeholders and end-users. Advocates for accessibility, privacy, and performance in stakeholder discussions. Contributes to planning discussions by identifying complexity and trade-offs. Ensures alignment of technical deliverables with operational and business objectives.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Education, Experience and Training

Education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or in a job-related field of study. Three (3) years of work-related experience in software development using modern languages and frameworks.

Certifications (Preferred)

  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Developer Associate, AWS Developer Associate, or similar cloud certification.
  • DevOps Foundation Certification.

Special Requirements/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Must have a valid Texas Driver's License and good driving record. Will be required to provide a copy of 10-year driving history. Must maintain a good driving record and remain in compliance with Article II, Subdivision II of Chapter 90 of the Dallas County Code.

Incumbents must also maintain the ability to pass the records check while in the position or until such time that the Commissioners Court and the County Civil Service Commission deem this position no longer has this requirement.”

  • Knowledge of cloud environments and CI/CD tools. • Skill in programming languages such as Java, Python, C#, and JavaScript/TypeScript, or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases.
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies and DevOps practices.

Physical/Environmental Requirements

  • Occasional travel to County sites and industry conferences.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving technology environment.
