About The Role

ROLE OVERVIEW

We are seeking a commercially minded solicitor for a permanent full-time Associate Legal Counsel role. This could be an exciting development opportunity for the right candidate, gaining exposure to the exciting world of film production, financing and acquisition.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The role is broad in nature and requires a reliable and pro-active team member. Experience in commercial environments, with a natural aptitude for the interactivity between the creative, commercial, production and corporate worlds would be advantageous. Responsibilities will include assisting with the Business and Legal Affairs work across a wide variety of matters and projects on a day-to-day basis, including:

assisting in structuring, negotiating and drafting film and television commissioning, financing and co-production agreements;

-

negotiating and drafting film and television development and production agreements with on- and off- screen talent and crew;

-

assisting in structuring, negotiating and drafting content acquisition agreements in relation to finished films/documentaries, and titles going into production;

-

advising on rights issues and rights distribution agreements;

-

advising on all aspects of film and television developments and productions including providing copyright, IP and compliance advice;

-

liaising internally at NBCUniversal with cross disciplinary teams and externally with other studios, distributors, platforms, talent, creative and production personnel; and

-

working collaboratively across the team to share and improve knowledge, through know-how research/presentations, the development of templates etc.

  • is able to operate in a supportive team environment, instinctively feeding into the improvement of the team’s systems, templates and processes where applicable.

Qualifications/Requirements

-

Qualified to practice law in the UK preferred (other jurisdictions considered) with 0 -2 post qualification experience (this is a guide and candidates with more experience are welcome to apply)

Experience of drafting and negotiating commercial / IP contracts

Strong understanding of contract, commercial and copyright law

Able to demonstrate an interest in the media industry and legal issues related to it
