About The Role

An exciting role in the Africa South Church Area Office has opened up for a dynamic Area Family History Manager. This position provides support for all Family History Department investments, activities and functions within the Africa South ecclesiastical area. This position manages department operations throughout the area which may include: Area Presidency support, operations, engagement, and area functions. The employee strives to move the work of salvation and exaltation in uniting families for eternity, and to achieve the department purpose which is to; create inspiring experiences that bring joy to all people as they discover, gather, and connect their family – past, present, and future. This is a people manager role that manages the work of other employees (may include mixed workforce).

  • Regularly managing the work of other employees (may include a mixed workforce).
  • Directing operations within the Africa South Area including travel.
  • Routinely communicating and interacting with senior leadership and external stakeholders.
  • Innovate, solve complex problems, and drive business growth.
  • Employ industry-specific expertise and understanding of global processes.
  • Responsible, in partnership with senior leadership and HR, to hire employees and recommend advancement,
  • promotion, or any other change of status of employees within their reporting line including
  • performance management.
  • Responsible for the following specific functions within the Area:

Area Manager

  • Support the Area Presidency for all Family History activities within the Area.
  • Responsible for all the FamilySearch operations in the area.
  • Responsible to ensure a healthy supply of names for temple ordinances.

Operations Support Manager

  • Provide support to the users (Church members and the public), of FamilySearch website

and apps.

  • Support in the recruitment, training, and support for the Church missionaries working for the Family

History Department.

  • Provide assistance to the FamilySearch Center support staff to ensure all equipment and resources are

functioning properly.

Engagement Manager

  • Develop and implement an engagement/marketing plan for the area.
  • Execute the global engagement plan for the Family History Department.
  • Supervise, coordinate and work with agencies who create material for local and global

strategies.

  • Coordinate the Family History Department needs with the Communications and Publishing

Department.

  • Implement plans for market outreach, customer support, and operation of FamilySearch

Center(s)

Product Manager

  • Contributes to shaping the product vision for the area, aligning with global strategy while addressing local needs.
  • Conducts regional market research and supports compliance efforts with guidance from

senior product leaders.

  • Works with cross-functional teams to implement localized features and improvements that

enhance usability.

  • Monitors performance metrics and user feedback within assigned markets to inform product decisions and recommend enhancements.
  • Must hold a current and valid Temple recommend and be worthy of it.
  • Required: Minimum 3 year University degree in a related field of study.
  • 9 years of related management and/or leadership experience.
  • Strength in operations management across multiple countries and languages.
  • Excellent people management skills.
  • Experience managing contracts & business relationships.
  • Experience in data management and analytics
  • Exceptional cross-organizational collaboration skills.
  • Exceptional project management skills. This includes functions as: FamilySearch centers,
  • Help and Support, marketing outreach, and patron experience assessment and design.
  • Excellent Communication skills
  • Ability and interest to integrate AI solutions in daily work.
  • Ability to use standard Microsoft products (such as Outlook, Powerpoint Teams, etc.)
  • Ability to travel across the Area
  • To successfully perform the essential functions of the job, there may be physical requirements
  • which need to be met such as standing, walking, or sitting for long periods of time and using
  • computer monitors/equipment.
