An opportunity has arisen in the Pensions Team at East Sussex for a new role to support the Governance Team and Head of Pensions fulfil the requirements of the Fit for the Future consultation.

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Pension Governance and Training Compliance Manager to join our team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for ensuring the effective governance and regulatory compliance of the LGPS. You will work closely with The Head of Pensions, Head of Pensions Governance, Pensions Committee and Board, and external advisors to assist with the delivery of effective governance and training for the Fund.

The post holder will support a range of pensions services focusing on Governance and Compliance for the East Sussex Pension Fund but with a particular focus on risk and training for the Fund.

Working within a dynamic team of specialists dedicated to Pensions, the postholder will provide a professional service in relation to a range of workstreams and projects including:

  • Policy development;
  • Oversight of the risk register;
  • Delivery and monitoring of training requirements.
  • Engaging with stakeholders across the Fund as required
  • research on new initiatives or guidance from regulators, government bodies or expert advisers; and strategy and policy review and creation.
  • Assist and deputise for the Head of Governance as required

The role will also providing substantial support to the governance team in relation to meeting the requirements of the ‘Fit for the Future’ consultation from a governance perspective and support the continued evolution of governance within the Fund. The post holder will be supporting the management team and elected members in administering the Local Government Pension Scheme for East Sussex eligible employers and the circa 82,000 beneficiaries.

We are looking for candidates with

  • Verbal, written and presentational communication skills including producing clear and concise reports. Including the ability to negotiate and influence others at all levels.
  • Critical analytical skills, with proven ability to analyse complex data and information and manage a range of projects through to completion.
  • Experience of working in a public service Pension Scheme managing legislation, regulation and scheme governance.
  • Understanding of the specific policy context of public service pensions and the Pensions Regulator.
  • Understanding and sound technical knowledge of the Local Government Pension Schemes (LGPS) regulations.

The role will be primarily remote with some time in the office at County Hall, the Head Office for the County Council. It is based on the edge of Lewes Town Centre, which is within walking distance to the town and train station. County Hall is also on a bus route and car parking is available on site at a reduced rate for employees.
