About the Role

We’re looking for someone with a good understanding of highway management issues and an interest in helping to keep Nottingham’s highway network moving safely and efficiently. You’ll support the operation of the Council’s Permit Scheme, the coordination of works on the highway and the processing of Temporary Traffic Regulation Order applications.

You’ll be confident communicating with a wide range of people, including colleagues, works promoters, utility companies, emergency services, public transport operators, businesses and members of the public. Strong written and verbal communication skills are important, alongside the ability to provide a high standard of customer service and deal effectively with enquiries and complaints.

You’ll be organised, able to prioritise your own workload and comfortable using IT systems to record, manage and interpret information. You’ll also be able to work on your own initiative as well as part of a team, with a proactive approach and a willingness to learn and develop your knowledge of highway and network management.

About You

The ideal candidate will have

  • A good knowledge and understanding of current highway management issues and techniques.
  • The ability to support the coordination of works and activities on the highway network, including the operation of the Permit Scheme and processing of Temporary Traffic Regulation Order applications.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues, works promoters, utility companies, emergency services, businesses and members of the public.
  • Good written, numerical and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret information and maintain accurate records.
  • Confidence using IT systems and specialist applications to record, manage and report information.
  • The ability to organise and prioritise their own workload, work to deadlines and use their own initiative.
  • A proactive, can-do approach, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team and a willingness to learn and develop.
