Cloud Engineer - Finance Operations

About The Role
The FinOps Engineer owns cloud cost visibility, allocation, and optimization across GuideWell's cloud estate as the company migrates to the cloud and builds its cloud financial management practice at the same time. This role designs the tagging and cost allocation model, builds showback and forecasting, manages Savings Plan and Reserved Instance coverage, and drives optimization work such as rightsizing and idle resource cleanup. The engineer partners with engineering teams to build cost efficiency into how workloads are designed and embeds cost checks into provisioning and CI/CD. This is a hands-on role that combines cloud infrastructure and Terraform technical depth with financial analysis and translates findings for finance and executive audiences.
What You Will Be Doing
- Analyze cloud spend, investigate anomalies, and track run rate against business case
- Execute optimization: rightsizing, storage tiering, scheduling, idle resource cleanup
- Design and enforce the tagging and cost allocation model
- Build showback reporting, budgets, and forecasting
- Manage commitment coverage and provide cost input to architecture reviews
- Set up budgets, forecasting, and anomaly detection. Route findings to the accountable owner.
- Identify and execute optimization work such as rightsizing, storage tiering, scheduling, and idle resource cleanup.
- Provide cost input to migration planning and architecture reviews.
What We Require
- 4+ years related work experience in cloud financial management, cloud engineering and infrastructure
- Related Bachelor's degree required
- Strong working knowledge of AWS and Azure billing, Cost Explorer, CUR, Savings Plans, and Reserved Instances.
- Experience with AWS Organizations/Azure Subscriptions and multi-account environments.
- Demonstrated cloud cost reduction with quantified results.
- SQL for cost and usage analysis.
- Ability to translate technical findings for a finance and executive audience.
What We Prefer
- FinOps Certified Practitioner.
- Familiarity with the FOCUS specification.
- Python or equivalent scripting for automation.
- Enterprise Discount Program, MACC, or Migration Acceleration Program experience.
- Chargeback implementation in a regulated or not-for-profit environment.
- Terraform and CI/CD pipeline experience. Cost management across two or more major cloud platforms
- Third-party FinOps tooling such as Flexera, Cloudability, Harness.
General Physical Demands
- Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally to move objects.
- Jobs are sedentary if traversing activities are required only occasionally.
- This position offers a hybrid work arrangement which combines flexibility with in office engagement. Team schedules are determined based on role requirements and business needs. Travel to and from our corporate offices may be required.

Typical Annualized Offer/Hiring Range: $109,300 - $136,600
Annualized Salary Range : $109,300 - $177,600
Final pay will be determined with consideration of market competitiveness, internal equity, and the job-related knowledge, skills, training, and experience you bring.
