Job Description

GI Lab Tech– Part-Time

Location: AdventHealth Shawnee Mission

Schedule: Part-Time

Job Summary

Responsible for performing routine patient care and technical support activities under the direction of the registered nurse and physician. This position supports endoscopy procedures by preparing procedure rooms, maintaining equipment and supplies, assisting with patient care activities, and ensuring compliance with infection prevention, regulatory, and certification standards. The role provides for patient comfort and safety while adapting care to meet the needs of pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. The Endoscopy Technician works within established policies, procedures, and scope-of-practice guidelines while supporting efficient and effective endoscopy operations.

Essential Functions

  • Provides supportive care to patients under the direct supervision of a registered nurse and physician.
  • Prepares endoscopy procedure rooms with all necessary supplies, equipment, and instruments prior to scheduled procedures.
  • Ensures endoscopy suites are appropriately stocked and prepared to support efficient patient care and procedural workflow.
  • Assists with positioning, preparation, and draping of patients for endoscopy procedures.
  • Monitors inventory levels of endoscopy instruments, supplies, and equipment and communicates replenishment needs as appropriate.
  • Performs treatments and procedures within the defined scope of practice and certification requirements.
  • Demonstrates competence in specimen collection, handling, labeling, and transport according to established procedures.
  • Inspects, checks, and prepares equipment and instruments to ensure proper operation prior to patient procedures.
  • Follows written procedures for high-level disinfection, cleaning, sterilization processes, and chemical and biological monitoring activities.
  • Maintains compliance with infection prevention, safety, regulatory, and accreditation requirements.
  • Supports patient comfort, safety, and dignity throughout the care experience.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare team members.
  • Maintains accurate documentation and reports concerns according to established protocols.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Technical or Vocational School training preferred.

Field of Study

  • N/A

Work Experience

  • One year of related healthcare experience preferred.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification preferred.

Pay Range

  • $17.70 - $28.31
