Role Purpose

The Senior Manager, Strategic Supplier Management leads a portfolio of critical technology suppliers to ensure CBA’s supplier ecosystem is strategically aligned, performance-led, risk-informed and delivering measurable enterprise value.

The role shapes supplier strategy, drives supplier accountability, identifies value and optimisation opportunities, and provides portfolio-level insights that inform investment, renewal and supplier decisions.

The Senior Manager acts as a trusted advisor to Technology executives and senior stakeholders, translating supplier performance, technology, risk, value and market information into clear recommendations that improve delivery confidence, investment discipline, resilience and long-term strategic value.

The Strategic Supplier Management team sits within Technology Strategy & Performance function and is being established as a strategic enterprise capability for Technology.

The team partners with the Group CIO, CTO, Technology leaders and business stakeholders to actively shape and govern the technology supplier ecosystem. Its purpose is to ensure material supplier decisions are aligned to Technology strategy, architecture direction, enterprise priorities, customer outcomes, operational resilience and value.

The team moves supplier management beyond traditional contract oversight by bringing together supplier portfolio strategy, value realisation, performance governance, risk judgement, market intelligence and technology fluency into one integrated capability.

Key Accountabilities

Supplier Strategy and Portfolio Management

  • Lead strategic management of a defined portfolio of technology suppliers, ensuring supplier decisions support Technology strategy, target-state architecture, enterprise priorities, simplification and resilience.
  • Apply supplier segmentation, differentiated treatment strategies and portfolio governance to ensure management effort is focused where it creates the greatest enterprise value.
  • Shape recommendations on supplier partnerships, renewals, exits, consolidation and rationalisation.
  • Identify supplier, tooling, platform, service and capability duplication across the portfolio and develop practical recommendations to reduce complexity.
  • Partner with Technology, Architecture, Procurement, Finance, Risk, Cyber and business stakeholders to align supplier decisions with enterprise outcomes.

Performance, Value and Supplier Accountability

  • Manage supplier performance across a defined technology supplier portfolio using performance metrics, service insights, value measures, risk information and stakeholder feedback.
  • Establish clear performance expectations and value measures aligned to enterprise outcomes.
  • Lead or support executive supplier reviews, strategic business reviews and governance forums focused on performance, value realisation, delivery confidence and decision-making.
  • Hold suppliers and internal stakeholders accountable for agreed actions, commitments, issues and outcomes.
  • Hold suppliers and stakeholders accountable for commitments, challenge performance constructively, and drive continuous improvement initiatives that improve value, efficiency and outcomes.

Value Optimisation and Portfolio Simplification

  • Identify optimisation, rationalisation and value realisation opportunities across the supplier portfolio.
  • Develop evidence-based recommendations that improve efficiency, simplify the supplier landscape and maximise value.
  • Partner with Procurement and Finance to support investment, sourcing, renewal and demand-management decisions.

Risk, Governance and Resilience

  • Operate within CBA’s governance, risk and supplier management frameworks.
  • Maintain visibility of supplier risk, obligations and resilience across the portfolio, proactively identifying and escalating emerging issues.
  • Balance value outcomes with customer impact, operational resilience, regulatory expectations and enterprise risk appetite.
  • Work with Risk, Cyber, Group Supplier Risk, Legal, Procurement and control owners to ensure supplier issues, risks and obligations are visible, understood and actively managed.
  • Ensure supplier decisions, issues, actions and outcomes are clearly tracked and followed through.

Market Insight and Strategic Relationships

  • Provide insight into supplier markets, emerging technology trends and strategic supplier roadmaps.
  • Translate market intelligence into portfolio recommendations and investment decisions.
  • Leverage supplier relationships to identify innovation, collaboration and value opportunities.
  • Act as a trusted SME for Technology leaders on supplier capability, market options and portfolio trade-offs.

Executive Communication and Influence

  • Prepare executive-ready papers, scorecards and recommendations.
  • Translate complex supplier, risk and technology information into clear options and actions.
  • Influence senior stakeholders across Technology, Procurement, Risk, Finance and Architecture.
  • Provide evidence-based recommendations aligned to enterprise priorities.

Experience Required

  • Experience in technology supplier management, strategic vendor management, supplier strategy, technology consulting, strategic account management or a related discipline.
  • Experience working in banking, financial services or another complex regulated environment.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise technology suppliers across software, cloud, infrastructure, managed services, cyber, data, AI and digital platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience influencing senior executives, C-suite stakeholders and senior supplier representatives.
  • Proven ability to identify and realise supplier optimisation, consolidation, value and performance improvement opportunities.
  • Experience using data, market insights and judgement to inform recommendations and decision-making.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to simplify complex issues and produce executive-ready materials.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience operating in large-scale enterprise technology environments undergoing significant transformation.
  • Experience with AI, cloud, cyber, data, infrastructure or digital platform ecosystems.
  • Experience supporting enterprise-wide supplier optimisation, rationalisation or simplification initiatives.
  • Exposure to supplier assurance, operational resilience, technology risk, audit or regulatory environments.
  • Experience working across complex stakeholder groups, including Technology, Procurement, Risk, Finance and Architecture functions.
  • Experience in supplier-side strategic, consulting or account management roles.
