Digital Signal Processing Engineer
Semtech France SAS · FRA - Meylan, France
About The Role
Meylan, France (Hybrid — Office: Monday–Friday)
Our Team
Join Semtech's Wireless and LoRa System teams , spanning our Neuchâtel and Grenoble offices, where we develop unique system-level solutions for Low Power Wireless Area Network (LPWAN) products.
As the world's leading experts in long-range, low-power, battery-powered wireless communication , our capability spans everything from antenna design through IC analog and digital design , low-power systems, protocol development, and cloud-based solutions.
You'll be part of the journey shaping the new LoRa and LoRaWAN system architecture , working alongside a highly skilled, multi-disciplinary team at the forefront of IoT connectivity.
Job Summary
As a DSP Algorithm Engineer , you'll design, develop, and optimise signal processing algorithms for wireless modem IP blocks.
Working primarily in Matlab , you'll build and maintain reference models and evaluate algorithm performance under realistic channel conditions, while also contributing directly to hardware implementation through RTL design in SystemVerilog and bit-accurate C modelling — working closely with the digital design and radio validation teams to ensure a smooth transition from algorithm to silicon.
Responsibilities
- Design and refine PHY-layer signal processing algorithms , including modulation/demodulation, synchronisation, channel estimation, filtering, and error correction; build and maintain the floating-point and fixed-point Matlab reference models used as the golden reference for hardware implementation and validation teams.
- Simulate and analyse modem performance under various channel conditions (AWGN, fading, interference) across key metrics such as BER/PER, sensitivity, and robustness.
- Contribute to RTL implementation of modem IP blocks in SystemVerilog and develop bit-accurate C models , supporting fixed-point conversion, assessing implementation trade-offs, and validating hardware behaviour against Matlab references.
- Support radio validation teams in correlating lab measurement results with simulation models, iterating on algorithm improvements based on findings.
- Monitor state-of-the-art DSP and wireless communication techniques , evaluating their applicability to Semtech's product roadmap.
- Produce clear documentation , including algorithm specifications, simulation reports, and performance analyses for internal teams and stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications
- MSc or PhD in Signal Processing, Telecommunications, Electronics, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in DSP algorithm development for wireless communication systems.
- Strong proficiency in Matlab for algorithm modelling, simulation, and performance analysis.
- Hands-on experience in RTL design (SystemVerilog) and bit-accurate C modelling for signal processing blocks.
- Solid understanding of wireless PHY layer principles : modulation, synchronisation, channel estimation, FEC.
- Rigorous analytical mindset with strong mathematical foundations.
- Good communication and collaboration skills in an international environment.
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of low-power wireless technologies (LoRa, BLE, FSK, or similar).
- Good understanding of fixed-point implementation constraints and hardware design trade-offs.
- Knowledge of RF instruments (vector signal generators, spectrum and signal analysers).
