THIS IS A BID POSITION

This position is covered by the collective bargaining agreement between the Chicago Park District and the Teamster Local 9. Pursuant to the collective bargaining agreement, the District will exhaust internal eligible applicants prior to considering external applicants. The District is assembling a list of qualified candidates for this position that will be considered should the position not be filled with internal eligible applicants.

TITLE: Electrical Foreman, Outside (M) BID

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS: Under general supervision, has immediate charge of a crew of employees engaged in outside electrical work; directs the crew in the construction, alteration, repair and installation of any type of outside electrical light and power equipment; performs related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • In accordance with prescribed plans and specifications, directs the installation, maintenance, and repair of outside electric light and power circuit equipment.
  • Reads, interprets, and applies applicable City of Chicago and State of Illinois electrical codes and regulations governing outside electrical installations.
  • Directs the removal, repair, adjustment, and installation of electric light posts, flood light equipment, signal equipment, transformers, cables, switches, terminals and other electrical equipment, and apparatus in outdoor locations.
  • Directs and, as needed, operates boom trucks, bucket trucks, trenching equipment, and related vehicles and equipment used in outside electrical work.
  • Inspects all outside electrical equipment and installations.
  • Recommends any necessary repairs, alterations, and construction work.
  • Lays out and assigns the work to a crew engaged in outside electrical work and instructs them in their duties.
  • Reviews time and attendance reports.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Training and Experience: Successful completion of a U.S. Department of Labor registered Lineman apprenticeship training program and attainment of journeyman status, plus two (2) years of journey-level experience performing outside electrical construction and power distribution work.

In lieu of the above, one of the following combinations is acceptable

  • Successful completion of a U.S. Department of Labor registered apprenticeship training program as an Electrician/Wireman and attainment of journeyman status, plus three (3) years of journey-level experience performing outside electrical construction and power distribution work; or
  • Successful completion of an industry- or company-sponsored apprenticeship training program as a Lineman, plus four (4) years of journey-level experience performing outside electrical construction and power distribution work; or
  • Six (6) years of journey-level experience performing outside electrical construction and power distribution work.
  • Supervisory or lead-worker experience in outside electrical construction and power distribution is preferred.
  • License Requirement: Must possess a valid State of Illinois Class B Commercial Driver’s License, or higher, and be qualified to operate vehicles equipped with full air brakes.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Considerable knowledge of city and state electrical codes, rules and regulations.
  • Considerable knowledge of electrical repair and installation principles and practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical blueprints, diagrams, and schematics.
  • Skill in the use and care of the tools and equipment of the electrical trade.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the public, park staff, and other trades people.
  • Ability to supervise employees.

Rate of Pay: $ 153,358.40/Annually
