About The Role

The Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan (RIM) in the Detroit Medical Center, a partner with Wayne State University's School of Medicine, has a position open for a Rehabilitation Neuropsychologist. The Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan is one of the flagship hospitals in the group of eight hospitals in the Detroit Medical Center. This position involves assessment and treatment of individuals with physical and neurological rehabilitation conditions. The Neuropsychologist will provide inpatient neuropsychological consultation services as part of an interdisciplinary rehabilitation team, supporting patients with traumatic brain injury, stroke, spinal cord injury, and other neurological conditions. RIM has an APPCN member postdoctoral residency in clinical neuropsychology. The department also has neuropsychology graduate students from local universities who complete practica in the Department of Rehabilitation Psychology and Neuropsychology at RIM. The department is also the hub for the Southeastern Michigan Traumatic Brain Injury System, one of the 16 TBI Model Systems that carries out longitudinal outcome studies in persons with TBI. The successful candidate will participate in the supervision and training of neuropsychology residents and students and have opportunities to engage in teaching, program development, and collaborative research activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide inpatient neuropsychological consultations, assessments, and treatment recommendations for rehabilitation patients.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team conferences, family meetings, and discharge planning activities.
  • Provide psychotherapy, behavioral interventions, and family consultation services.
  • Supervise and mentor neuropsychology trainees within RIM's training programs.
  • Support timely consult response, evaluation completion, and continuity of neuropsychology coverage across inpatient rehabilitation services.
  • Participate in quality improvement, educational, and research activities.

Qualifications

Education: - Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology with specialty training in Neuropsychology, including a two-year postdoctoral residency in Clinical Neuropsychology. Must be license eligible in Michigan.

Experience - Required: The applicant should have experience working with patients with neurological conditions and performing neuropsychological evaluations, especially with individuals who have sustained traumatic brain injury, stroke, anoxic injuries, neoplastic disease, dementia, and movement disorders.

Experience - Preferred: The applicant should have experience working with an interdisciplinary rehabilitation team and interest in working with practicum students and neuropsychology residents. Experience providing inpatient neuropsychological consultation services in a rehabilitation hospital or academic medical center is preferred. Experience supervising interns, practicum students, or postdoctoral residents is preferred.

Certifications

  • Required: Licensed Psychologist, eligible in Michigan
  • Preferred: Board Certified in Clinical Neuropsychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology
