Software Engineer - I

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Software Engineer - I based in India.

This is an opportunity to join a product engineering team focused on building scalable search infrastructure for large volumes of medical <data.You>’ll work across data ingestion, indexing, ranking, retrieval, and high-performance backend APIs.The role offers hands-on exposure to technologies including TypeScript, Python, Elasticsearch, GraphQL, Docker, and <Kubernetes.You>’ll collaborate closely with product managers and data engineers to turn complex technical challenges into impactful product capabilities.Performance, reliability, maintainability, and thoughtful system design will be central to your <work.You>’ll also have opportunities to explore emerging AI and search technologies and contribute to an evolving technical platform.This remote role is well suited to an early-career engineer who is curious, proactive, and eager to grow within a collaborative global environment.

Accountabilities

• Develop and maintain search infrastructure that ingests and indexes large-scale medical datasets, including terabytes of information.
• Design and implement high-performance backend APIs optimized for low latency, reliability, scalability, and maintainability.
• Build and maintain end-to-end product features using Node.js and GraphQL where appropriate.
• Contribute to data ingestion, indexing, ranking, and retrieval capabilities that support core search experiences.
• Collaborate with product managers, data engineers, and other stakeholders to define technical direction and deliver valuable features.
• Take ownership of the search codebase by proactively debugging, troubleshooting, and resolving issues affecting stability or performance.
• Produce clean, elegant, reusable, and well-tested code that can be easily understood and maintained by the wider engineering team.
• Identify and address performance bottlenecks while continuously improving system efficiency and scalability.
• Proactively identify technical risks and propose solutions early in the development lifecycle.
• Stay current with advances in AI and search technologies and identify opportunities to introduce relevant innovations into the platform.

Requirements

• 1–2 years of professional software engineering experience, preferably with exposure to backend or search-oriented systems.
• Strong programming skills in TypeScript and Python, with an emphasis on reliability, scalability, clean architecture, and well-tested components.
• Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Practical understanding of backend API development and scalable distributed systems.
• Familiarity with cloud-native development practices, preferably within AWS environments.
• Exposure to Elasticsearch, GraphQL, or large-scale search technologies is a strong advantage.
• Experience with Big Data technologies such as AWS EMR, PySpark, or Airflow is a plus.
• Familiarity with Large Language Models (LLMs) or AI technologies is beneficial.
• Strong problem-solving, debugging, and analytical abilities, with a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating risks.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional and distributed teams.
• Curiosity, adaptability, ownership, and a genuine willingness to learn new technologies and contribute to strategic engineering initiatives.
