Employee Type: Intern (Trainee)
This program is designed for students currently pursuing an associate or technical degree, who have completed a portion of their curriculum, and will be completing their program after the coop / intern experience. It is not designed for graduates. The successful applicant should have a working knowledge of AC and DC circuits, electrical controls, and troubleshooting with and understanding of electrical schematics.
3-month positions (May 2027 through August 2027)
15-month positions (May 2027 through August 2028)
Job Description
Duties / Tasks
Duties at the surface coal mine will be wide and varied, based on needs of the operation. These duties may include all or some of the following:
- Repair electrical mining equipment and facilities.
- Assist with electrical inspections on mine equipment.
- Work with different voltage electrical systems.
- Troubleshoot motor control circuits, PLC, and digital drive control systems.
- Perform job duties in accordance with MSHA law and regulations, established company safety procedures, and state and federal environmental regulations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
- Enrolled in accredited electrical program and in good academic standing.
- Completed a portion of college in the associated field of study intents on completing the degree.
- Applicants need to have a valid driver’s license
- Able to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions
- Able to work rotating shifts.

ANALYSIS OF PHYSICAL DEMANDS FOR POSITION
- Intermittent: None
- Occasionally (0 -1/3 of workday): Kneeling, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, squatting, and working on elevated work or standing.
- Frequently (1/3 – 2/3 of workday): Walking, standing trunk rotation, standing, working arms overhead, lift floor to waist (65 lbs.), lift waist to eye (25 lbs.), bilateral carry (65 lbs.), unilateral carry (40 lbs.), and push and pull (100 lbs.).
- Continually (2/3-3/3 of workday): Lift floor to waist (65 lbs.), lift waist to eye (25 lbs.), bilateral carry (65 lbs.), unilateral carry (40 lbs.), and push and pull (100 lbs.).
NOTE: This position requires working rotating shifts. The role involves approximately 20% indoor work and 80% outdoor work. Employees must be able to work while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to steel-toe boots, safety glasses, a hard hat, face shield, and respirator. Must also successfully pass a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check and the applicable Job Function Test (JFT).
