About The Role
Duties
Mainly deployed on (a) conducting scientific, analytical and investigatory work; and (b) supervising and training staff and other management duties in the Government Laboratory or in other Government departments.
(A Chemist may be subject to cross-divisional postings in Government Laboratory.)
Entry Requirements
Candidates should have
(a)(i) a first or second class honours Bachelor Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry/ Biotechnology (or a related discipline) or Forensic Science from a Hong Kong university or equivalent [see Note (1)]; and a Master Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry/ Biotechnology (or a related discipline), Forensic Science, Food Science, Environmental Science, or an appropriate science subject from a Hong Kong university or equivalent; or
(a)(ii) a first or second class honours Bachelor Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry/ Biotechnology (or a related discipline), or Forensic Science from a Hong Kong university or equivalent [see Note (1)]; and two years’ relevant post-graduate experience; and
(b) a pass result in the Aptitude Test in the Common Recruitment Examination (CRE) [see Note (2)];
(c) met the language proficiency requirements of ‘Level 1’ results in the two language papers (Use of Chinese and Use of English) in the CRE or equivalent [see Notes (3) to (6)]; and
(d) a pass result in the Basic Law and National Security Law Test (BLNST) [see Notes (7) to (8)].
Pay
Master Pay Scale Point 27 ($63,100) per month to Master Pay Scale Point 44 ($122,045) per month
Terms of Appointment
A new recruit will normally be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years. Upon passage of probation bar, he/she may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms.

Apart from the G.F. 340, applicants must submit separately supporting documents: (a) a detailed curriculum vitae; (b) relevant academic certificates (included certificates and official transcripts); (c) results of CRE or equivalent examinations; (d) support documents of working experience; and (e) the BLNST result (if any) by email to <[email hidden]> on or before 30 September 2026. The supporting documents should be sent as attachments in the email. The post applied for and the on-line application number should be quoted in the subject of the e-mail and copies of the supporting documents. If candidates fail to provide the supporting documents as requested on or before the specified date, their applications will NOT be considered.
Applicants should provide their email addresses on the application form. Candidates who are selected for interview will normally receive an invitation by email in about eight to ten weeks from the closing date for application.
