A little more about your role

WSP Africa is seeking an experienced Project Manager to join our Energy team, with proven delivery experience on power generation projects. The ideal candidate will combine strong project management capability, PMP certification and a relevant technical qualification to lead complex energy infrastructure projects across South Africa, the broader African continent and international markets.

As a senior project leader, you will manage multidisciplinary teams involved in the planning, design coordination and delivery of power generation projects, ensuring that technical, commercial, programme and stakeholder requirements are effectively managed from concept through to execution.

Working closely with clients, contractors, project stakeholders and technical specialists, you will be accountable for project delivery, programme management, commercial performance and technical quality, while ensuring projects are executed safely and in accordance with applicable standards for power generation environments.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and lead multidisciplinary engineering teams delivering complex power generation and energy infrastructure projects.
  • Support the preparation of conceptual and functional designs, specifications, bills of quantity and tender documents for power generation projects.
  • Manage project schedules, budgets, resources and delivery programmes to ensure projects are completed safely, on time and within budget.
  • Ensure engineering deliverables comply with IEC, IEEE, SANS and client-specific standards where applicable.
  • Coordinate project activities with clients, contractors, stakeholders and internal engineering disciplines.
  • Lead project meetings, prepare minutes and provide clear project progress updates.
  • Prepare comprehensive project reports, cost estimates and budgets.
  • Contribute to proposals by preparing and reviewing project scope, methodology, schedules and budgets for consultancy services.
  • Maintain relationships with internal divisions, external contractors and clients.
  • Keep up to date with technical quality management procedures, developments and specifications relevant to substation project delivery.

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate

  • Relevant technical qualification from an internationally recognised institution.
  • PMP certification or professional registration with an internationally recognised project management institution.
  • 15+ years’ experience in transmission and distribution, including substantial experience managing and delivering substation projects.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams on complex power generation and energy infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of IEC, IEEE and SANS standards, as well as client-specific requirements where applicable.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing technical documentation, project reports, cost estimates, schedules and budgets.
  • Professional registration with an internationally recognised engineering institution.
  • Previous experience with system studies, primary plant and secondary plant design will be advantageous.
  • Ability to work as part of a dispersed and remote team using collaboration platforms such as Microsoft Teams.
  • Ability to travel in accordance with project requirements.
