About The Role

SENIOR ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNICIAN 10400012 - T12

Job Purpose

To provide technical support and assistance to the members of the Sustainable and Resilient City's Initiative Unit in the preparation and implementation of an IDP compliant Environmental Management System.

Key Responsibility Areas

  • Undertakes or assists with any environmental research or environmental project that may be required.
  • Liaises with government, community, business or institutional representatives in environmental planning and management matters.
  • Assists with the preparation of Ethekiwini Municipalitys environmental input into provincial environmental management and implementation plans.
  • Assist with preparing reports and correspondence.
  • Provides support in the management of information.
  • Undertakes assigned tasks related to the preparation, approval, monitoring and review of environmental policy and plans.
  • Undertakes the technical aspects of environmental planning and policy development.
  • Responds to or re-directs enquiries from the public on environmental management matters.

Essential Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree (NQF Level 7) in Environmental Science or Environmental Management or any other related and equivalent qualification.
  • Valid motor vehicle driving license
  • 3 Years relevant experience.
  • Computer Literacy.

Preferred Requirements

  • 4 Years relevant experience.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to undertake fieldwork.

Job Purpose

  • •Undertakes the technical aspects of environmental planning and policy development.
  • •Undertakes project management.
  • •Attends and participates in meetings and hearings.
  • •Overseeing, managing, training and mentorship of more junior technical staff and students.
  • •Undertakes related assignments.
