Metal Accounting Senior Officer ROLE PROFILE Transformation Centre of Excellence (COE) – Quality & Metal Accounting GENERAL Date December 2025 Location Aggeneys, Northern Cape Operations VZI Centre of Excellence (BMM, Gamsberg, Skorpion) Job Grade D1 (Paterson) / M7 (Vedanta) ROLE CONTEXT Metal accounting governance is essential for protecting value within Vedanta Zinc International (VZI). The key focus of this role is to ensure accurate measurement and reporting of metals through the value chain (ore generation, work in progress stocks, on- and off specification concentrates, tailings residues, etc.), inclusive of moisture, chemistry and mass to ensures that production and quality reporting, metal reconciliation and business decisions are all reliable and audit ready. The Metal Accounting Senior Officer plays a pivotal role in reviewing that the day-to-day metal accounting practices executed are compliant with VZI's AMIRA-aligned metal accounting framework as well as Vedanta’s Management Assurance System (MAS) requirements, with supporting data integrity, sampling governance, mass balance preparation, laboratory QA/QC, and reconciliation accuracy. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE To support the accurate, transparent and compliant execution of VZI's metal accounting system by managing sampling QA/QC, validating metallurgical data, assisting in mass balance preparation, and ensuring all measurement processes are traceable, accurate and audit ready. RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Sampling Governance & Quality Control · Ensure all primary, secondary and tertiary sampling complies with VZI and AMIRA standards. · Verify sample representivity, mixing, splitting, labelling, and chain of custody integrity. · Monitor sampling equipment condition and report deviations. · Review QA/QC data (blanks, standards, duplicates) and investigate anomalies. 2. Data Validation & Measurement Integrity · Validate data from plant systems (SCADA/DCS/PI), weighbridges, moisture measurements, density meters, sampling systems and laboratory results. · Flag data gaps, inconsistencies and unusual trends immediately. · Support root cause analysis for measurement inaccuracies or mass balance imbalances. 3. Mass Balance Preparation & Reconciliation Support · Assist with daily, weekly and month end mass balance preparation for plant feed, concentrate, tailings and residues. · Support variance identification and root cause investigations. · Maintain detailed logs of adjustments, assumptions and reconciliation notes. · Ensure mass balance files are accurate, traceable and audit ready. 4. Laboratory Liaison & Analytical Oversight · Coordinate with internal and business partner laboratories to ensure turnaround times, accuracy and method compliance. · Track laboratory performance trends (bias, precision, drift, outliers). · Support corrective actions where analytical deviations occur. 5. Reporting & Documentation · Prepare metal accounting data packs, dashboards and summaries for managerial review. · Maintain structured data repositories for all sampling, assay and reconciliation records. · Ensure controlled documents are version managed and audit ready. · Contribute to monthly quality & metal accounting reports. 6. Loss Accounting & Measurement Improvement · Work with Metallurgy and Operations to identify losses or measurement gaps. · Assist with testwork, sampling point redesign, flow measurement improvements and MSA (measurement system analysis). · Track implementation of corrective actions and verify effectiveness. 7. Business Partner Coordination · Coordinate documentation and quality requirements for labs, survey, inspection and sampling business partners. · Review performance and escalate noncompliance to the Quality & Metal Accounting Manager. 8. Compliance, Safety & Audit Support · Support preparation for internal and external metal accounting audits. · Ensure compliance with VZI governance, MHSA requirements and chemical handling standards. · Conduct VFLs, plant walkdowns, PTOs and participate in IBRA/HIRA reviews. · Assist in investigations where measurement, sampling or quality issues impact safety or production. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS Qualifications · Degree in Mining or Mineral processing related fields · Additional internal auditing / Finance-related qualifications will be advantageous. · Valid driver’s licence and medical fitness. Experience · Minimum 3 years in similar roles. · Experience in mining, plant operations or laboratories is advantageous. Technical Competence · Basic knowledge of mass balancing, sampling theory and assay data interpretation. · Ability to identify irregularities in sampling, measurement or analytical data. · Proficient with spreadsheets, data analysis and digital dashboards. · Familiarity with plant information systems (SCADA/DCS/PI) beneficial. · Strong understanding of QA/QC concepts (precision, bias, standards, duplicates).
