Surgery Scheduler – (CMA) – FT – Florence Neurosurgery
Responsibilities
Summary: The Surgery Scheduler (CMA) coordinates and schedules surgical procedures for physician office patients, ensuring accurate clinical documentation, pre-operative requirements, and communication among patients, providers, hospitals, and ancillary departments. Utilizes clinical knowledge obtained through Medical Assistant training to support safe, efficient, and compliant surgery scheduling processes.
- Schedules surgical procedures and related appointments in accordance with physician preferences and organizational protocols.
- Coordinates with hospitals, outpatient surgery centers, and other departments to secure procedure dates and necessary resources.
- Obtains and verifies required clinical information, orders, authorizations, and supporting documentation needed for scheduling.
- Verifies and completes insurance benefits using current eligibility vendors or other available online tools or by telephone when online resources are exhausted.
- Educates patients regarding surgery dates, pre-operative instructions, testing requirements, follow-up appointments and any other questions or concerns.
- Assists patients with billing concerns and refers additional questions to the appropriate department.
- Communicates scheduling changes, cancellations, and updates to patients, providers, and applicable departments.
- Maintains accurate patient records within the electronic medical record (EMR) and scheduling systems.
- Collaborates with physicians, clinical staff, and administrative teams to optimize scheduling efficiency and patient access.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and hospital billing preferred.
- Adheres to all confidentiality, regulatory, and patient safety standards.
- Performs additional duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational goals.
Qualifications/Training
- Previous physician office, surgical scheduling, or Medical Assistant experience preferred.
- Experience with electronic medical records and physician practice scheduling systems preferred.
Education/Certifications/Licenses
- High School Diploma/GED required.
- Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification required.
