  • Assist in safe lifting, turning, positioning, preparing and supporting patients for surgical procedures, using proper body mechanics.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and safe environment that is clean and free of clutter and takes appropriate action to correct hazards.
  • Monitors outer core and ensures the area is free of non-essential equipment.
  • Works with nursing staff to locate the necessary equipment needed for procedures.
  • Identifies unsafe conditions and/or recommends preventative measures to appropriate individuals.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of established emergency procedures, infection control practices, and applicable OSHA standards.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skill to respond in an emergency situation, such as first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and to assist as a team member during procedures.
  • Work involves inventorying, disassembling, cleaning, reassembling, and maintaining operating room equipment.
  • Ensures the availability and preparedness of OR rooms, supplies and equipment needed to support efficient and effective perioperative processes.
  • Assists with preparation, set up, opening and knowledge of surgical supplies and equipment.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrates proper cleaning practices, cleaning materials, and cleaning techniques to prevent infection and cross contamination between patients.
  • Performs operating room turnover activities and cleaning procedures according to established standards.
  • Knowledge of essential anesthesia equipment and supplies. Prepares anesthesia related equipment and supplies for readiness of all cases including cleaning, setting up and decontamination.
  • Performs anesthesia machine and cart turn over after each case cleaning, replacing and restocking all necessary equipment and supplies prior to each case.
  • Determines inventory supplies & hall PAR levels, drug trays and organizes a neat and orderly access for safe anesthesia delivery.
  • Assists anesthesia providers with regional positioning and other related clinical functions.
  • Maintains adequate inventory of supplies including: compressed gas tanks, maintains gauges, and stocks appropriate Biohazard containers in the perioperative departments, according to census or par level.
  • Uses standard precautions and appropriate personal protective equipment when working around or handling hazardous substances, including blood and body fluids.
  • Transports non-monitored patients to and from nursing units in a manner conducive to patient safety and comfort.
  • Transports blood and specimens to /from the perioperative area and laboratory
  • Must be flexible, punctual, and be willing to learn both the surgical and anesthesia environment.
  • Performs other position-related duties as assigned, depending on assignment setting.

Qualifications

Qualifications /Training

  • Past surgical experience is not a must but desirable / Previous experience in a hospital setting
  • On-the-job training for maximum of three months (periodic assessment of progress -if applicable)

Licenses/Certifications/Registrations/Education

  • HS diploma preferred/Equivalent from an accredited school
