Transmission Operations Business Analyst

Job Summary
The Transmission Operations Business Analyst – Process Improvement supports operational excellence across Transmission Operations through data analysis, process improvement, human performance initiatives, organizational learning, and business intelligence. The position serves as a key resource for identifying performance trends, improving work processes, reducing operational risk, and supporting continuous improvement efforts across Transmission Operations.
The successful candidate will analyze operational data, facilitate improvement initiatives, support event investigations, develop performance metrics, coordinate lessons learned activities, and partner with Operations, Training, Compliance, and Engineering organizations to improve organizational effectiveness and reliability. This position combines the skills of a business analyst, continuous improvement practitioner, and human performance professional.
Essential Responsibilities
- Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve operational effectiveness, efficiency, quality, and reliability.
- Facilitate process improvement initiatives across Transmission Operations.
- Lead process mapping, workflow analysis, and solution development efforts.
- Support implementation and sustainment of continuous improvement initiatives.
- Business Analytics & Performance Monitoring
- Perform periodic trending and analysis of Human Performance data, including investigations, Problem-Issues-Enhancements (PIE)s, Good Catches, and audit findings.
- Compile and present Human Performance metrics, dashboards, and insights to leadership and governance committees.
- Analyze operational, compliance, training, and performance data.
- Develop Power BI dashboards and performance scorecards.
- Perform trend analysis and identify emerging risks and opportunities.
- Present findings and recommendations to leadership.
- Human Performance & Organizational Learning
- Administer and support Transmission Operations Human Performance initiatives.
- Analyze operational events and identify error precursors, latent organizational weaknesses, and systemic risks.
- Coordinate lessons learned, learning teams, and corrective action reviews.
- Support development of human-centered controls, checklist, and performance tools.
- Event Investigation & Lessons Learned
- Train and support personnel in incident investigations using approved methodologies (e.g., TapRoot®, REASONs checklist)
- Provide oversight and quality review of investigations and Lessons Learned to ensure consistency, technical accuracy, and effectiveness.
- Process internal and external Lessons Learned and coordinate subject matter expert reviews and corrective actions.
- Committees & Cross-Functional Support
- Participate in Human Performance Steering Team activities.
- Support the System Event Review Committee (SERC) and Transmission Safety Committee.
- Coordinate and lead Learning Teams as needed to address technical and performance ‑ related themes.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree or equivalent work experience in operations, engineering, compliance, training, or a related field.
- Experience supporting electric transmission or control room operations.
- Strong analytical, communication, and facilitation skills.
- Willingness to travel, work modified schedules, and perform assigned storm restoration, emergency response, and business continuity roles as necessary, including nights, weekends, holidays, and extended work hours.
- Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Human Performance, Operational Excellence, Continuous Improvement, Business & Performance Analytics, and Organizational Effectiveness.
- Experience with incident investigations, root cause analysis, or corrective action programs.
- Familiarity with NERC standards and Transmission Operations processes.
- Reporting Relationship
- This role reports to the Compliance & Procedures Supervisor under the Transmission Operations Support Manager.
