About us

We have excellent inhouse engineering teams capable of delivering all stages of the project cycle, from concept through to commissioning, with a strong focus on process led innovative and robust yet appropriate solutions.

Role Purpose

The Setting Out Engineer is responsible for the accurate setting out of civil engineering and construction works, ensuring all activities are completed in accordance with design drawings, specifications, and project requirements. The role supports the successful delivery of projects by providing precise surveying, quality assurance, and technical support while maintaining the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Project Delivery

  • Carry out all setting out activities using all required measuring tools and automatic levels.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and design information to establish accurate site control.
  • Establish and maintain site control points and survey benchmarks.
  • Set out earthworks, drainage, pipelines, reinforced concrete structures, foundations, roads, steelwork, and associated civil engineering works.
  • Verify dimensions, levels, and coordinates before construction activities commence.
  • Produce and maintain accurate survey records, setting out data, and as-built information.
  • Conduct quality assurance inspections to ensure work complies with design tolerances and project specifications.
  • Identify and report design discrepancies, clashes, or site issues to the Site Manager or Project Engineer.
  • Support subcontractors by providing setting out information and technical guidance.
  • Monitor construction progress and ensure works are completed to the required standards.
  • Assist in planning site activities and sequencing works.
  • Ensure all survey equipment is maintained, calibrated, and fit for purpose.
  • Complete daily site records, quality documentation, and progress reports.
  • Liaise with clients, designers, subcontractors, and project teams as required.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and best practice across the project.

Quality & Governance

  • Comply with all company Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality (HSEQ) procedures.
  • Prepare and work in accordance with Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
  • Promote safe working practices and intervene where unsafe acts or conditions are observed.
  • Wear and maintain appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Report accidents, incidents, near misses, and hazards promptly.
  • Ensure environmental controls are implemented during site activities.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Experience as a Setting Out Engineer within civil engineering, utilities, infrastructure, or construction.
  • Competent in the use of Leica, Trimble, or Topcon survey equipment.
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings and construction specifications.
  • Experience setting out drainage, reinforced concrete, highways, pipelines, and structural works.
  • Good understanding of quality assurance processes and tolerances.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.

Desirable

  • HNC/HND or Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience within the water or wastewater industry.
  • Knowledge of GPS/GNSS survey techniques and digital data capture.
  • AutoCAD experience.
  • EUSR Water Hygiene Card.
  • SMSTS or SSSTS.
  • CSCS Card (Engineering/Professionally Qualified Person).
  • Temporary Works awareness.
  • Confined Space training.

  • Accuracy of setting out and survey information.
  • Compliance with project specifications and quality standards.
  • Delivery of works to programme.
  • Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality performance.
  • Timely completion of as-built records and documentation.
  • Effective communication with project teams and clients.
  • Contribution to successful project delivery and continuous improvement.
